My brother and me are trying to connect to an IP address. It will work for me but not for my brother but he can ping the server.
The 2 computers are on LAN in my house and the connection is dividing with win 2000.

Do you know were the problem?

perhaps you don't use NAT ???

since i am sharing my internet access, i must use nat :D
i think it's some problem with win2K packet forwarding ... but why does it only block ts?

hmmm... I thought of a proxy-setup or something strange ;)

Perhaps there's a firewall blocking ports in the range of 1024 - 65535 for incoming packets from your brothers computer? (the client will use one random port in that range)

PS: does ts work for your brother at all or does the problem just occur when connecting to the same server at the same time?

are you sure about not using the integrated win2000 (stupid) firewall?

oh yes and it might be possible that the windows2000 connection sharing just isn't that good that it can handle udp-traffic (I remember some other guy talking about problems with this before...) so perhaps just try another routing-software (like winroute) / OS (like winxp)...

As far as I know only win2k advanced server has an integrated firewall.
All other win2k versions come without one (at least all non server versions) as far as I know..

yes, win 2000 don't have firewall

EDIT: Ups. I think the following is bullshit. I assumed you want to run a server. For the client MS ICS should work without any changes.
Has your brother a firewall on his system?
Or did he have one installed?
Sometimes a personal firewall does not unistall correctly and will block even after uninstall certain ports (Especially ZA is known for that).

Bullshit:
I assume that you use microsoft ICS to share the internet connection?
If so you need to configure a port forwarding of port 8767 UDP to the computer that runs the TS server.
As far as I know this is also necessary for Win2k even if the server that is doing ICS also runs the TS server. Win XP installs the port forwading automatically in that case.

I don't know how to configure a port forwarding with MS ICS on Win2k since I never used it. But I think it is possible do do it.
I am not sure here. I even think that there are diffent versions of MS ICS for Win2k out there. One more advanced for Win2k server and a more basic one for Win2k. I don't know if port forwarding is possible with both.

what do you call bullshit? plz stay polite! i (usually) know what i do :p

i am not running any server. my borther simply can't access any remote server when passing through my main comp sharing the access.

but wait, it seems that the server i want to connect to refuses a computer connecting behind a router. (or ics or whatever)
i can connect to ts public servers ...
so i guess i'll have to ask that servers admin to change that setting if it exists :)

:) with bullshit I meant the stuff that I have written. I thought that was obvious from my post.

I have the same problem. Main PC is sharing the internet connection with mine. Both running windows XP and I cannot connect to any servers while the main can. Disabled all firewalls both on mine and the main PC still nogo. I receive the error message:

Got a bad respone from the server.

Does anyone know what to do if this can be fixed or if it's just not compatible?

Dying to get this working a.s.a.p.

Thanks
Birdie
