I just installed my Teamspeak server client (for windows) and it is running...However, when I try and join the server, It wont connect. It will simply say "Error...the server you are trying to reach may be down or not have teamspeak running on it" (not the exact words, but basically what it says)
I can log in as administrator on the site, where all the settings are, however I have no idea what to do to get this server running and accpeting people into it.
I did a search for my server, to make sure it was actualyl getting out to the internet, and I found it, I just couldnt enter it.
Are there any settings I must look over or change before I can fully use this server?
thanks for any help

I forgot to mention this before, sorry..
I am behind a firewall, zonealarm (regular edition). However, the firewall has been configured to allow the server to run and accept members.
My OS is Windows XP
Internet is DSL (about 700kbs)
I have service pack 1 installed (I never bothered to get 2)
I never used the WINXP firewall and any ports required should be available.
Please help me if you can
Thanks
***I realize this isnt in the help section. I am very sorry about that, if it must be moved please move it for me. I wasnt aware I made the topic in the general section at first.
Seal,
There is no such thing as a server client, it's either a server OR a client,
For the moment from reading your post I assume you are using both.
For starters, switch off Zone-alarms, even better de-install it, and make sure nothing stays beheind (search these forums for Z-A)
So from inside your network, for the client to connect to the server you need to use the internal IP address, like 192.168.xxx.xxx
Finally, are you behind a router, is yes, search these forums again on NAT and port-forwarding to find out ow to forward port UDP 8767
Good luck and let us know

Hey thanks I got it running. I shut down zone alarm and it connected...Hopefully I will be able to configure it so zonealarm can run, because I do not want to leave myself without a firewall.
thanks for help

Well I can connect to my server, but nobody else can (and thats with zone alarm disabled)
I connected using the IP 192.168.1.47. It took me right into the server without any problems, however when I gave that IP to others to connect, it wouldnt work...
Am I giving them the wrong IP to use? Or is there a setting I must configure to allow others to access the server?
Any help is much appreciated
thanks

Yeah, whqat you did is give an internal (=LAN) ip to the outside world, ie you are behind a router/firewall and no one recognises the address.
Go to www.myip.com and see what your external ip (=WAN) is, your buddies should use that to get into your server......however, this assumes that port 8767 is forwarded to the 192.168.1 .47 address. This has to be doenon your router
good luck

Ok I got that IP written down, but I am not using a router.....is there anyway I can open that port to get this to work? Do you need a router to run TS or can it be setup to run without one?
Also, I gave that ip to my friend, from myip.com to try and connect, still the same problem he cant get in.
ty so far for help , I hope I can get this running
seal
No you dont need a router.
If you are not using a router, there must be some firewall functionality hidden somewhere which prevents TS from working correctly from the outside.
Somewhere your internal IP is ported to the extermal IP and vice versa
Suggestions: look on the manual of your cable/dsl modem, zone-alarm, norton, winXP ICS/Firewall. Even if you had Z-A ever installed before it could still bother you, do a search in the forums and make a clean sweep of Z-A

is this at home??
I would say a router is involved somewhere if you are using 192.168.1.* for you server.
sounds like the ports aren't being forwarded.
edit: fixed internal ip num.. got my number mixed around :P I do that all the time hehe

I can assure you, there is no router
I dont know why its not running...I can host some online games and zone alarm doesnt have a fit about it... :(
Do you really think uninstalling zone-alarm is a must in order to get this to function (its really my only protection lol) I didnt try and disable norton yet, so I will give that a shot and see what happens.
Ty for help
Seal,
There must be something else too, follow your network cable/or USB set up and see what's between your pc and the wall-socker
There must be a DSL or Cable modem, and almost always those have a firewall too

The only firewall I have up is zonealarm, and I disabled it. There is no other firewall. I am certain my westell DSL modem does not act as a firewall.
I am actually able to host online games (like aces high) and not have any problems at all. I dont know why TS wont let anyone else in. I can enter the room myself, however, others cannot. I disabled the firewall, and even norton, still no luck.
Isnt there anything else I can try?
p.s....what is the 2nd ip for, the one with the picture of the globe by it, under "Your Ip's"
Please Help , I really want to try and get this running this weekend. Thank you so much for all your help so far
so on your machine, if you open a cmd / dos box, and type ipconfig /all, what ip address does it give on your nick
AND
Is this the same address you see when you do www.myip.com in your browser
If you're stuck this weekend for a match or so, let me know and I'll lend you my guest-server for a few hours

Under Ip it gives me 192.168.1.47, same as always. It also gives me a bunch of other IP's, such as Gateway, DNS and a few more. There wasnt a specific one for NIC...
When I got to myip, this is what I see
141.158.138.229
Really confused:( I wish I could get this to work
There you go then Seal, there is some functionality in your network that translates your external IP, the one from myip.com and issued to you by your ISP, into an internal.private IP, the 192.xxx etc one,
This is usually called routing :D
So find out what box or piece of software does that, and you'll know where to forward UDP port 8767 to your internal IP address
So a good point to start would be to type the IP address you found after doing ipconfig /all , under "gateway" in your browser. If you are lucky you will go into a router webadmin.
(10:1 the ip is 192.168.1.1)
