Can not host a channel

When i launch team speak all is fine except for the fact that , Channels, Players, and Self menus do not light up, so I cant access them period!!!. Now I do have a router, could this be the reason why they are no highlighted ? I would like to host a channel but I cant with these menus shut off to me, Can someone please help !!! I have the client download installed teamspeak 2:confused:
