Server Tutorial Wanted!!!

Can some one Post a Tutorial on how to create a server for dummies like myself, weather is public or a privite clan server. I like the Tutorial [GwL]Red_Mist did for the client

Can someone move this thread to TS2 General Server? I get a "can't access that page" when I try to use the Move Thread option.

xchaser, how dumb is dumb? There are some people who can't find the power switch, and others who just need to know what options to supply on the command line. And you don't indicate which OS you're running, and that makes a big difference. Also, how you're connected to the Net, and whether you're trusted with root/Administrator rights.

Most ISP's don't allow servers to be run from home, and for good reason: Most home users aren't qualified to run a server securely, and that leaves the ISP at risk of getting "black-holed" by other ISP's for being a source of malicious packets tunneled from somewhere else. (SpeakEasy is my favorite exception: They allow servers but police their network for security problems.)

How many services are you making available to the Internet? For those services, are you subscribing to the appropriate security announcement mailing lists so you can patch quickly when a new vulnerability is identified?
