I can hear people, but people cannot hear me!
When I join a channel, I see my icon(a microphone) with a red cross on it!
I read this in the info:
Player:
SGResu
Global flags:
None
Channel Privileges:
None
Player Attributes:
Input muted
I check my mic, and it works correctly.
I hear my voice trought the speackers when I talk!

I have the same problem with an ESS 688 card on win2k. (I agree that it is _very_ old, still ISA)
But recording with the system recorder works fine.
Maybe it has something to do with the fact that I also cannot switch to "direct sound" in the options?
Is this something that can be overcome ir do I have to buy a new card?
thx,

since im not familiar with either chip set all i can suggest is check your windows mixer settings. the old isa card if you cant get that working in wave im afraid my only suggestion is to upgrade. I think you can still get the old SB pci 16's for like 20 bucks and other slightly better cards for not much more.

I know that new Soundcards are not expensive. Here in Germany I can get a SB PCI 128 even for 15 Euros =~ 15 Bucks ( and from what I read the SB PCI 128 works fine)
Two reasons why I think this will be necessary anyways.
1. If DirectSound does not work it won't be of much use in CounterStrike because i wouldn't hear ingame sounds.
2. I think the card is not even full-duplex. When I gave better thought to that I figured that not hearing anything while I talk is crap anyways. ( and even worse - when using the voice activation, it has to record the whole time - therefore it cannot playback anything)
While writing this I realize that I have not tried to mute the output and then try to de-mute the input - maybe that would "work" (but I'll buy a new card anyways)
