i think that is lag, which is caused by the network latency

You can turn it off by switching off the network

If you can always hear yourself thru your speakers even with TS closed. This just means your mic volume is not MUTE, as it should be.

On the mixer, your mic has 2 volume controls:
Mic Playback: which should be 'mute'.
Mic Recording: which should be 'selected', and at a reasonable level. Usually max, until people start complaining that you sound too loud :P

You can find the mixer by clicking:
Start, All Programs, Accesories, Entertainment, Volume Control.

Use the Options-Propierties box to switch between the 2 views (Playback/Recording). And make sure you enable the checkboxes for the stuff you want to see.
