I looked through the FAQ and was surprised that I didn't see a "suggested hardware" FAQ. If there is one somewhere else, please feel free to tell me to RTFM. :)

I'm new to Teamspeak, and in fact don't even have it set up yet. I have a chance to purchase a headset dedicated to Teamspeak. The USB headsets look handy since I wouldn't have to mess around with a PCI sound card, however I'm worried about software/driver support. My other option is to dust off my SBLive and use a traditional headset/microphone.

What would you all suggest? Are the USB headsets handy or a pain? I'm likely to use it mostly in Windows, but I also want the option to use it in Linux.

Thanks,

if you already got a SB Live! I wouldn't buy an expensive headset with USB support.

I'm using a Plantronics HS1 (that's close to historic but all cables are large enough to repair them yourself ;) ) I also got a SB Live! Value (also very old) but I guess the soundquality is one of the best you can reach with TS... (as even peter didn't say anything about bad quality)...

Thanks. One of the reasons I asked was that the cheapo USB headsets were about $US 40, and the "normal" headsets were about $US 20 so if the drivers worked well, the added $20 for convenience seemed worth it.

As it turns out, I don't have the SB Live in that system-- it's a Soundbaster 128 PCI. I wonder where that SB Live ended up... :)

Thanks again for the info, I'll start looking at conventional headsets.
