Up until two days ago, my friends were able to connect to my ts. The server runs on my computer. I have read the forums and thinking the version I was using had timed out I uninstalled both the server and the client and reinstalled them both. Ofcourse my IP stayed the same since it is the same computer.
I can get onto the channel but no-one else can. My friends tried downloading the server to run on their computers and they have the same problem , they can get on their own ts but no-one can log into it. We get the messsage that it is not running etc......
I am running the home addition of WinXP and using a cable modem. This is the only computer I am using and do not know if the cable modem is considered a router.
What has happened in the last few days to TS that we would be having problems with connecting? Is there anyway around this?
Not being a computer tech, would u explain any suggested fix in simple language that a 4 year can follow.
I know there are other voice programs out there but I really liked using ts.
Thanks in advance for any help u might offer. Talena

We can all use public servers, but not our own. Why is that?

Is your external IP address out of one of the following ranges:
10.0.0.0 - 10.255.255.255 (10/8 prefix)
172.16.0.0 - 172.31.255.255 (172.16/12 prefix)
192.168.0.0 - 192.168.255.255 (192.168/16 prefix)
More info on private IP address ranges (http://www.faqs.org/rfcs/rfc1918.html)

Some ISPs use DHCP to give their users IP addresses reserved for LAN use. Those are not routed in the internet.
If your external IP is NOT reserved for LAN use there are plenty of other reasons why it won't work.

No my ISP address is not in those ranges. However I found that if I turned my firewall off everyone can connect. It seems when I updated the software some settings must have changed and I don't know how to change it back. I am running zone alarm. I hate leaving my machince unprotected, but what can I do? I do not know how to do anything concerning the rerouting of ports so if that is the only suggestion it won't help me.
Thanks for trying though.
