Direct sound option blanked out

Just reformatted, added a modem as hardware. Running win98se.

In my options window on TS, I used to have "Primary Sound Driver", and I used that, now there's no Primary Sound Driver in either pane of the device section. Just my soundcard, and with that, the directsound option is blanked out. Which makes my teamspeak experience a helluva lot less pleasant.

What's happened folks? Any ideas?

only a guess: installed the newest sound driver, and afterwards directX ?

Afaik my s-card is built onto the motherboard, windows autoinstalled the drivers for it when I reinstalled.

DirectX 7 is now installed. Didn't make a difference.

BTW: DirectX 9 is the current version
