View Full Version : Newbie Problem - Hearing my own voice (not feedback)

I've searched on the forums but didn't find what I needed, so apologies if it's always being asked.
Just got TS setup with my mate as the server. We both connect fine. However when I speak, a few seconds later I hear myself in the speakers. I'm guessing his server is sending back my voice; when he talks he can't hear himself. It's not a duplexing problem, there's a significant delay which can only be explained by either sending to and receiving from the server, or compression (probably both).
Any help is greatly appreciated, this is driving me mad!
Thanks,
Matt

then you and especially your friend should look at the echo thread in the FAQ first !

Have done mate and couldn't get it working
then you should post more infos here (the detailed mixer settings) of your and your friends PC for recording and playback.
It's not a feedback coming from your friends loudspeaker (=> your voice), beeing recorded by his mic and sent back to you ?

No absolutely not. He turned his speakers off, and I still got it. It appears to me to be the server sending me back my voice. I'm going to connect to another server tonight and see if that solves the problem.
Although I'm a newbie I'm not totally hopeless ;) I honestly tried everything I could think of, and read as much as I could on this site, before posting. I've got quite a bit of experience with recording so the first thing we checked were the speakers and mic his end.
I am at a loss, I thought maybe I'd ticked or unticked a box somewhere; or maybe he has on his server?
Again thanks in advance for all the help :o
no, it's not a server problem nor a server setting (or you and your friend would be the first one I hear of such a problem).
Have you really checked that the mixer settings of your friend are ok (micro ist the ONLY recording device, EVERYTHING else is muted) ? In playback: the micro shuld be muted.

Got on his server last night but he wasn't there  Anyway at first it was still echoing (I was the only person on there, he was a server only). Without any idea what to do next, I opened up the Volume controls and double clicked each tick box, so all their states ended up as they already were. Rebooted the PC just in case (getting desperate!) and now, no echo! Very strange, but then this is Windows. Hopefully I'll get to test with him online as well tonight, 'cos for all I know he can't hear me now, but it's look much better now than it did earlier :D
