I am very new to this so please help me. I have just downloaded teamspeak, and purchased a usb headset. I am using windows xp pro, and I meet all the system requiremets. when i try to use the recorder to test my output I get nothing, and the sound comes thru my speakers, and not the headset. I have gone to the settings and tried just about every config. what am i doing wrong? also i have connected to a server and could hear people talking, but I get kicked off by them because of the sound I am producing. I have heard nothing but good things about teamspeak, and i thank you in advance.

Go to start menu, programs, accessories, entertainment, volumn control.
Make sure that your mic' channel is enabled. While youre at it, make a shortcut to vol.ctrl, for easier access.

Listen to an mp3, or wav thru your headphones, to make sure its plugged into the right place.

Then, go into the settings of TS, and setup the sound, and test your voice output, and assign a push to talk key.

As for the sound, the users on my server complain about the sound as well, being static-y etc. I can only suggest that you experiment with the different codec selection within TS's settings.
The other voice chat progs available, either require a fee of some kind, or are laiden with ads and spyware. I have no idea what the sound quality is like.

I cannot even connect to my own server, so I myself cannot tell you what more to expect.
good luck
