ok, im gunna try to make this as easy and painless as possible. I usually know what im doin when workin my way around computers but this one has me baffled as im new to home networking and firewalls, but first my question and specs:

I have 2 systems on my home network. Both behind a Linksys BEFSX41. The computer im runing the server off of is a windows 98 machine. It uses the standard port (8767) and i can connect to the server from my other computer just fine (using my real IP adress and not my home network IP address).

But for some reason, after a week of having it runing ( i did a reboot of the server ) noone can seen to logon to my server, yet i still can. Ive tried powering down both machines, modem and router for 30 mins, powered back up, and i still have the same results.

I have the following ports forwarding:

98 computer (server):
8767
14534

XP machine
8767
14534
17479 (for a game)

is there somthing i need to do that someone can help me with? im really geting agravated wtih this because im the computer geek of the family, yet i cant fix this simple problem.

Thanks for your time and help!

There is no reason that should not work... Just make sure you are forwarding UDP port 8767 and not TCP. Other than that, I would say double check that the server is configured to run on 8767... I have a linksys and I have no problems, and basically have the same ports opened as you - I just have more of those UDP ports opened as I host several servers.

The reason you can still connect even using your external IP is because your router recognizes it right away as yours and you do not have to exit it, bounce off a few servers, and come back into the network. So you will always have access to your own server (unless it is not running). Try going into the Web Administration menu and double check that the server is running off UDP port 8767, and make sure the server itself is started. Just because that icon is in your system tray doesn't necessarily mean the server itself is started.

Worst case scenario, I offer a free TeamSpeak channel with as many sub-channels as people want - my server is called Sollice.net public TeamSpeak and the IP is 24.105.176.153:8767 - just come on in and check it out and if you'd like your own channel amongst the others just e-mail me: jdawgg@sollice.net

I hope you can get your problem worked out though,
Regards,
Jdawgg

i dont want to use someone elses server thats why im trying to host my own, but thanks for the offer.

I have DMZ on (yes, its hooked up to the right port)
i have the 4 ports forwarded AND triggered.

im coming up hopeless. i dont know what to do now. but it is a router seting.

i bypassed the router and hooked the computer directly to the modem, and everyone could connect fine

DMZ opens all your computers ports up to the real world and all of it's hackers ! not a good choice . set your router ports 8767 and 51234 udp to allow the t-s servers lan ip , and enable it in the check box ! this is all you need open for a t-s server ! you can open other ports as needed for games or other programs as well . but DMZ is like open all the doors in the house when 1 small window is all you need !
