View Full Version : One of those Newbie Questions

Please forgive my lack of knowledge regarding networks. Here's the situation...

I took all my spare parts and threw together an extra computer. I've installed Teamspeak Server there for non-commercial use by a small handful of players from their homes.

The computer in question has it's own internal IP for my network assigned to it by my router. I can connect to the server fine from anywhere inside the house using Teamspeak. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I suspect I'd have to do one of the following to allow computers outside the house to connect to it...

--Move the computer to the router's DMZ (Unfortunately, that spot is occupied by my gaming computer)

--Get a second dedicated IP from my ISP. I suspect this will cost me some $, which is something I'm trying to avoid on this... well... really unnecessary but potentially fun experiment.

Am I simply missing a setting somewhere or using the wrong configuration of things or are the two things above the likely only ways to allow folks to connect from outside my home network?

Thanks for any suggestions.

After I fished around for buzzwords (like UDP) in my router software I think I found what you mentioned. It seems to be working!

Thanks very much!
