View Full Version : Procedure for setting up TS Server from a www IP address?

Thanks to several experienced TS people, I can now get the TS server running on my computers (Windows XP operating sys). Now, since I am still well below the novice level, I do have another question, but am trying to learn this stuff, so before I ask my next question "please be patient."
The question is this.... Since I would prefer to run the TS Server from a website (www.szwor.com (under construction)), What do I need to do in order to run it from there?
Do the files need to be uploaded when I do a site update?
Is it just a matter of adding a script to the initialization routine?
Must I do it using unix as the operating system?
Do I manually update the TS server to point directly to the szwor IP address?
Or is it just not possible to go that route with the knowledge I currently have...
Basically, I need the assistance of someone who is willing to either explain how to do it, or who can point me in the direction of 1 or 2 (more if needed) good references where I can read up on how to do it.
Thanks in advance for your time and help on this.
1) have you read the FAQ thread about running TS on a "web space" ? If so have you made sure that your web space allows running a server ?
2) TS runns on windows or Linux, so it runs on remote machines wich one of this OS.
3) running the TS server remotly is not that easy as if your sitting infront of the machine. So at least basic knowledge in the OS is a must.
Of course we could tell you how to upload/install it but this would take some time and most important, you would not be able to maintain it.

I have read the faq, but I didn't see it go into too much detail on how to actually set up a site using webspace. I would assume that I can take the TS folders and then add them to the site, put a pw on it and the operate the site from the wonders of www webspace, but that's just an assumption. Also from talking to the techs at cobra-hosting, applications can be run in the server and TS is being run from www.notacult.com which uses the same hosting that I do. I guess I could also try to contact their web guy and ask him/her how they went about it, but I thought I'd find the answer here amongst the experts.
As for maintaining Teamspeak are you talking about giving permissions and booting people and stuff? I believe you should still be able to do it from the site if you have the proper permissions set, but I'll double check on that.
And lastly, If there is information in the faqs or in the forums that I've missed which tells me how to work the issue, then all I ask is for a friendly push. I'm willing to do the work on it and if it doesn't work like I think it will, then it's back to square one, but at least I tried.
If you get some results with this could you please put in here. I am trying to do the same as you.
Thx
the FAQ entry I'm refering to is not designated as a Remote-Setup-Installation-Guide. The remote installation guide is nearly the same as you would install it locally apart from the fact that you have to connect the server remotly. The installation guide you can find in the
- Manual
- for Linux there are several other guides (see sticky threads) in the forum (e.g. here (http://forum.goteamspeak.com/showthread.php?t=10064) )
maintaining: every server needs more or less maintaining (setting the right proplerly, shutting down not needed services,....). Specialy remote server which are always online have to be treatended carefuly else you'll soon have a lot of unwelcome people on your system.
PS: Remember: the guides are not an introduction into the respective OS. The basics such as setting rights, uploading files you'll have to bring with you. But of course you can ask here for SPECIFIC help.

Job, if I figure it out and get it to work I'll let you know. I'll probably pour over the manual and any faqs I can find on my next days off and since I'm not a programmer for html it may take a bit. Heck, I just figured out how to make movies work on the szwor site.
On maintaining the server, I do have 24/7 access to uploading data to the site and If it's pw protected shouldn't that help a little with keeping out bad influences? Hmmm, speaking of pw's can we set a pw for entry into different chat rooms on the server? Or is it just one pw for it.
Thanks.

Blade if you are talking about the windows xp problem that caused the server to not find the sqlite.dll then here is the link......

The fix worked like a charm and had to do with a program outside of Teamspeak, so I hope this helps you.
