Hi, im having a few problems getting a teamspeak server running behind my new router. As my name suggests I have a linksys WAG54G.

I have setup the port forwarding number UDP 8767,
I have the latest drivers/firmware,
I am able to run bfv and farcry servers.

When my friends try to connect to TS some can get in and some cant. The all have TS set up correctly and it’s not always the same person who cannot connect. Sometimes resetting the router will get them in but when the next person tries to join were back in the same situation. There doesn’t seem to be any logic to it.

We have been using TS for a few years now and its always been great never had any kind of problems, until I got the router. The thing is the routers great at everything else, all my games work fine the LAN works well and the port forwarding works first time with everything else ive tried it with. I got the router mainly so I could set up a 24/7 TS server.

I’ve been browsing forums for a few weeks now looking for some kind of answer but haven’t found anything that works. I’ve tried reinstalling everything ive changed the port number but still get the same problem. This is driving me mad now and short of throwing the router away I have no idea how to fix it.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Maybe you have a firewall, because when i had my old DSL modem it had firewalls that i didnt even know about you should ask whoever you got it from to see if it is a firewall, bad news but i eneded but getting a new modem anywayz.

I do have a firewall on the router but I thought that was what the port forwarding sorted out? I don’t know too much about routers, this is my first one so I could be wrong there.

I’ve checked the windows firewall to make sure that’s off and I’ve done a reinstall since getting the router so there shouldn’t be any trace of my old firewall on there. Its just nortons antivirus 2004 TS and a few games.

Sorry to hear your having the same problems I’m starting to think it’s just a TS and routers thing as everything else works fine. Now I’m left to decide whether to ditch my new £80 router and buy another that might work or build a cheap server to do the job instead.

I did like the sound of the routers firewall though as I know nothing about linux I will have to set it up with windows and nortons, which isn’t nearly as secure. If it was any other app I would just stop using it but I have yet to find a better voice comm. If only it worked….

They have lists of games and soundcards that TS works with there should be something along the same lines for routers. I know the Ts team doesn’t have time to go through them all if any but they could get the info from the forum users or something.

Anyway thanks for your replies and I hope someone can shed some light on this soon, or at least recommend me a router that works with teamspeak if there are any out there.

10's of thousands of people run routers and have no troubles with them , i am one of them and my router is a linksys router all i have is port fowarding 8767 udp and my lan ip of pc running TS and the box called enable checked ! thats it if this is not working for you hold down the routers reset button for 15 seconds , this will reset your router to factory defaults passwords included , then re-enter the port fowarding ports in the advanced tab if in same location as mine ?

As I mentioned in my first post I have the port forwarding bit set to the right number I’ve also tried other numbers to see if that helped and yes I set them on both the server and the router and I even clicked enable. I’ve also reset the router and reinstalled the computer and tried pretty much everything I could find on here or think of myself. I even read the manual....

Glad to hear that you and 10’s of thousands of others all have no troubles with them. It would be good to hear from someone who is using the same model linksys and has it all working, I’m still not convinced that its not a compatibility thing but i will keep looking.

Doesn’t look like it’s your port forwarding settings being wrong, although mine doesn’t work either so....

I think the admins and help guys are going to continue to ignore us so we need to sort this out on our own. What we need is a list of routers that work then we can see if it’s just us or whether it’s a problem with certain routers.

So far we have the:

Linksys WAG54G
Linksys BEFSR41 version 3 router

Both in the doesn’t work pile, both with the latest firmware and the correct port forwarding settings (UDP 8767)

If anyone out there has either of these routers working please let us know, or any router for that matter, could you let us know what model it is and if its using the latest firmware. Same for ones that don’t work.

With a bit of luck we can stop too many more people making the same expensive mistakes.

It shouldn't be too much trouble for the tech support people to help us compile a list of routers with all of us giving details of model, firmware, settings and results. I do realise that if they had to do this themselves it would be pretty much impossible, but surely they can be a little more helpful in letting us try and get a compatability list up?

As more and more people have more than one computer at home, more people are using routers for ease of setup and general security robustness. If TS arn't careful they are going to be the best voice comms in the world with no users.........

P.S. I love teamspeak, its been a great tool for several years and is a necessity for any serious gamers out there. So please dont think I don't appreciate the work the teamseak developers have done.

P.P.S mines a Linksys WAG54G too :(

the admins have said this befor "this is not a router fourm" so i doubt there going to compile a list for you , most likely you will hear something like "go to the manufactors web site and ask them , or find a router fourm to ask in , or yet read the owner manual" will be your responces from the fourms ... but becuse yours is not working you want it to work of course , so would i , but it is most likely not ts keeping it from working but a missed setting in the router or a firewall app... if you bypass the router and hook the pc with ts on it up the the net directly it will work , so it's not going to be a ts proublem , nence the responces we have seen in the past listed above ..

Very well it should be with all these router problems in this forums section. We are looking for help. So how about you put this as a sticky or something.

writen in many places,... people still ignores it. If you have serious problems with your router, you def. should head over to a real router froum. We simply can not discuss all routers here in this forum. www.broadbandreports.com is such a forum

Okay guys. I found a solution!!!!!!!!

Make sure that you set a static IP address on your computer (the one your using in online game). Then on the router, check that the MTU is set to 1492 and disable the block WAN Request. You can also try disabling the firewall on the router.

everyone stop what there doing chris-WAH54G does not know how to use/setup "HIS" router . so we the forum as a whole need to fix his problem on a piece of equipment not needed to run TEAMSPEAK . thats why there are router fourms , and if a router was needed to run TS, we as a whole would do more to help out , but as for the one's who dont know sh*t about routers and need there hands held the whole time , i would go and first read the manual that came with it or find it online , second dont get bitchy like were sapose to know how to run your router , like there only 10,000 diferant routers out there , sorry for the rant :p i feel better now for some odd reason :D

put your TS IP (192.168.1.100) in the DMZ

there is a thread that explains perfectly what you need to do. Try forwarding port 8768 TCP. I have a linksys and this solved my problems. They don't mention this of course and this would be an asset. You would not find this in your router manual.....and the arabs on the other end of the 800 # won't tell you either.

put your TS IP (192.168.1.100) in the DMZ
DMZ is not a good idea it opens ALL the ports to that pc to the net !! you only need to do port fowarding on port 8767 udp to that ip !

DO NOT ENABLE DMZ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That will give anyone access to the entire computer!

Try to enable TCP/UDP or both to the port. Try to assign that IP to your computer as a static IP. You should be able to figure that out if you have your manual or the online FAQ's for LinkSys avalible.

I will see what else I can find and post it here.

Later.

Hi People,

Just for those having trouble we have found a fix for one of the routers causing problems, the Linksys WAG54G.

And the fix is...

Set up the port forwarding in the port range forwarding section and not the single port forwarding section, and it all works fine..... No more difficulty logging in, and we've had over 8 people in with no trouble what so ever so far!

So enjoy to all you Linksys owners, and good luck to the rest of you. Maybe trying the same thing may help your routers too??
