Hello all...

I just set up a TS 2.0 server to replace my RW server and I have noticed something wierd on the client side when playing UT2003.

Normally, everyone has no problems at all conecting and communicating outide of the game. Most everyone is using win XP and they have set their clients to use WAV recording and WINDOWS CLEP 5.1. The server is set to also use WINDOWS CLEP 5.1 by default.

Once the game if fired up almost all communications become very choppy and unusable.... Everyone is using a Broadband Connection (CABLE/DSL) and I know they when I am monitoring the Bandwidth usgale to my Teamspeak server I am barely filling my pipe. ( I have the teamspeak server on a different T-1 circuit)

Has anyone else had any problems?

PS: I also wanted to add that I tried running Roger Wilco as well just to TEST the theory and it seemed to work fine... ( Not saying this to nag, just to help figgure out if it was related to software or internet latency)

Hello again....

I just wanted to follow up on some MAJOR problems with TS and UT2003.

I have the latest verion of the server set up and I am running the latest developer release of the client..

Ouside the game we all have NO problems communicating with eachother... However the minute we go in game TS becomes totally choppy and we cannot communicate..

We have tried changing from Direct Sound to WAV recoring and lowering the quality to CLEP WIN 5.2 to see if it improves anything, but we have had no luck at all.

I also used MTRG and Some of my router Bandwidth utils to test Bandwidth and make sure it is NOT the issue. Bandwidth was fine on the server with 14 players. I still had plenty of BW to spare.

I also tried moving the TS server to a new server on a separate t-1 to see if that makes a difference, but still no luck....

any insught into this problem is greatly appreciated....

I am VERY willing to test any new BETA stuff to help TS become the BEST COMMS possible...

Thanks in advance!

I have got the same Problem. When I am connecting to our Clan´´s TS server and play UT2K3 I hear just scattered voices. I also got DSL (768/256 Kbits). I am using WINXP Pro with Terratec DMX Xfire 1024 and the newest drivers.

I changed:
settings -> settings ->sound driver -> wave
and now everything works fine. I have not tested if this really was the reason, but you can try it yourself.

My clan also had this problem. Codec=Celp5.1. Server=2k Server. Clients=98se, XP. While it works fine for the people on 98se, its just choppy.

Symptom:When we had the codec set to Celp5.1, the XP users couldn't hear anyone else. The 98se users could hear but it was choppy.

Solution: The wave thing seemed to clear it up for the XP clients. I also changed the codec to GSM 16.4 and that seemed to fix the choppyness for us at least. Also, the patch helped my XP users a lot.

We also play RTCW, and had the low sound quality. The Celp codec is meant for 56kers mainly so it will sound worse(choppy, scattered voices, etc...). If your on broadband, use the higher rate codec, it won't really make a noticeable difference.
