View Full Version : Fedore Core 3 and TS2_RC2
Hello ladies and gentlemen.
I can not seem to get get TS2_RC2 to reckon my microphone with RH FC3.
The mike works fine in other applications, like Skype, and on the desktop, so I know its enabled, but thats about all i know.
I have allready read this article (http://www.linux-gamers.net/modules/wfsection/article.php?articleid=34) but I dont feel confident in changing something that allready works (if it aint broken dont fix it) :)
What other options are there to make it work?
Off Topic
Not to sound rude or harsh or anything, but wouldnt it be about this time where TS2 went out of the RC stadium, after all it has been RC2 for quite some years now :)
Keep up the good work.
are you sure its recording in those other applications or just playing back?
make sure your mic boost is turned on and try this in the console
amixer sset Mic Capture 100
-Feld
What is that command supposed to do?
For me it just returns:
Simple mixer control 'Mic',0
Capabilities: pvolume pvolume-joined pswitch pswitch-joined cswitch cswitch-joined cswitch-exclusive
Capture exclusive group: 0
Playback channels: Mono
Capture channels: Front Left - Front Right
Limits: Playback 0 - 31
Mono: Playback 31 [100%] [on]
Front Left: Capture [on]
Front Right: Capture [on]
I think you may have a point regarding record vs playback... I just tried Krec and SoundRec....... none of them recoded anything, not even static noise...

I am currently having a similar problem. Everything worked fine a couple kernel revs ago, but now under 2.6.9 or 2.6.10 I can't seem to get TS to pick up anything in the microphone.
The one thing I noticed is that the channel selection for alsa changed at that time, and since then I haven't gotten it to work. IIRC FC3 uses 2.6.9 which is where my problems started also.
My brother has it working, but with loopback problems. We use to just ensure that PCM Capture channel was turned off to avoid that problem, but now that channel doesn't exist.
I can hear myself in the speakers when I turn up the mic channel, but the little green light never turns on in TS.
Going to try some other recording programs and start debugging this in earnest. Problem is I need to find ones that use the old OSS stuff since that is what TS is using...
Now that World of Warcraft is running fine under cedega, I can't very well be stuck in Windows because of Teamspeak
System:
Arch Linux
2.6.10 kernel
SB Audigy 2

Fixed.
Simple really. alsamixer apparently has decided not to show all the relevant sound channels.
I just had to turn up the mic capture channel (not shown in alsa) by editing /etc/asound.state and then running alsactl restore.

vor it seems like I am having the exact same problem but ur fix wasnt very specific...do you think you could post more specific instructions or maybe help me troubleshoot in real time.
Thanks in advance
DG16 you can just open Kmix and click on input tab, the right click in the main window and select channels. from the new window tick "capture" and click ok to close that window.
now activate the red dot and adjust the slider while you perform the test in TS2 till your mike reckons you at a decent speak level :)
Took me a while to figure that "capture" is "input record"

I had this problem with GNome on FC3.....It has something to do with the Microphone +20 boost. I mute that or unmute that and I'm good to go. It screwed up on me a few times with Point2Play running Counter-Strike. Mainly cause CS takes over your sound settings. But it worked, I can run CS and TS together perfectly.

I have noticed a large sound system latency on my FC3 system with the 2.6.10 kernel. could be related. TS does not actually lock on my system, it just takes forever to do anything.

Another strange observation:
If I switch my options to network, I get a green light (but clearly can not talk). Then I go back to options again switch to oss /dev/dsp and it works. But it never works if I attempt to use oss /dev/dsp at startup.

Ok here's my problem. Using FC3 with kernel 2.6.10. I got it so I can atleast hear ppl now but my mic don't seem to work. I can seem to get the green light to come on if I play with the voice active adjustment but no one can hear me. In fact I'm not even sure if my mic works. Can't even seem to get Krec to do anything. I'm kinda of a newb when in comes to linux. Last time I played with it was back in 97 with Slackware. But a friend of mine talked me into trying to migrate to Linux for my gaming. And until I can get TS working in FC3 I won't. I have turned off my mic boost on Kmix (I use KDE) and the wierd thing is my capture slider will not move up or down. Now ToW said to click the red button then adjust the slider to work in TS. My red dot just blinks once when I click it. Is it suppose to stay on? Please any help into checking into see if my mic work would be great.
Ok I installed Fedora Core 3 last night. I'm a newb to Linux when it comes to mos tof the things.. Can you guys ATLEAST (PLEASE!!!) tell me how to install TS2 lol
I have installed the clinet in my FC3 box but every time i try to run it i get an error message saying it is a Proviledged Instruction.. and then closes.. i get this even while running it as root
i looked at the FAQ and nothing touched this.. any help would be great.
