View Full Version : Server Connection Issues

I have spent the past 8 hours trying to get the server to work. I know what my WAN IP is and it hasn't changed in years, same with my LAN IP.
I have read the manual atleast 3 times though and gone over the FAQ again and again and nothing is helping me resolve my problem.
Admin shows that the server is running but when I log to the client (after running the server program) I get a cannot connect to server error.
My server shows up on the list when you do the search so I know teamspeak is reading it. I have opened my port up as well and have gone back many times to recheck it. I even had my brother who has more knowledge of routers and networks and he says its all correct and is also boggled in why neither of us can connect.
There has got to be something we are missing. After 8 hours of trying this gets really really frustrating. I came to this program cause I was told it was easier to use and easier to set up than Ventrilo. Having the same issues here.
Please help!
wow, 8h in one piece ? you must be tired now and so didn't understood or missed the FAQ thread "no reply" ?
My guess is that you try to use the WAN IP or weblist to connect to your server (which is within your own LAN ??). That would be a bad thing and only lead to another, probably 70 or 80 years of frustration (I don't know how long you plan to live) :p
Pls, re-read this FAQ thread again and post back. If not successfull, pls post what you tried so far (use the FAQ thread as a checklist) and give a bit more details about your network, firewalls,...

Assuming you've set up port forwarding on the router correctly
Turn off popup stoppers, XP or other brand firewalls, antivirus packages, spyware tsrs etc etc and try again. If it works after all that, turn each one back on individually until you find which is giving the problem.

I don't use firewalls because when I did 2 years ago I could never get my MMO's to run so never activated any since then.
I have no problems connecting to the team speak servers off the getting started page, yet I still cannot connect to my own.
I have tried connecting by my LAN IP as the FAQ has stated which is 192.X.X.X
This didn't work, I know you say not to connect to the WAN IP but out of curiosity I tried it anyways which is 68.X.X.X and of corse that didn't work.
I have reread the FAQ an uncountable number of times and still cannot see what I am missing.
I even tried using dyndns.org to give me a webname type IP to connect to (even though it still uses my WAN IP). That also did not work.
Again I checked my ports and I have 8767 UDP, 8768 TCP, 14534 TCP, 51234 TCP all open as well as the ports needed for the MMO games are open (6000 range ports)
I tried changing the default port to one I know is open and still am having issues.
I'm guessing that there is some unknown IP on my system that I need to use and still haven't found. The free servers for up to 100 people is just what I need and if I can figure out what is wrong then thats great cause the prices the host servers offer are just rediculous.

Okay, I was able to get in using IP 127.0.0.1
Never knew this IP connected through my LAN cause its a 192.x.x.x
Now I just hope everyone else can connect by the WAN IP of my server.

Glad you got through in the end.
127.0.0.1 is a special loopback address to your own pc. Everyone has that one.
Changing the port to "one you know is open" wont work. There will already be an application exclusively listening on that port and ts wouldn't be able to open it.
...that you can't use the LAN IP within your LAN is still VERY VERY strange
if not anything in your network setup is totally borked, I'd still say this can only be a firewall (winXP default built in ?)

To my knowledge I do not have a default firewall in my OS. I have Win XP pro SP1. I know how to deactivate the firewall for SP2. Have searched and never found an active firewall on my system.
Had a friend try and connect today and she had no luck getting into the server.
since you can only connect by using the localhost device and you set up a port forwarding (You wrote that you "opened the ports", that wouldn't be correct, you have to FORWARD them in your router ! I assume you did that correct), it looks like you're server only allows connections from localhost => first guess: firewall !
Are you sure the WinXP (even SP1 has one) built in firewall is deactivated ?
What error does your friend get (anything in the client.log file ?)

Unless you can tell me exactly where to look I have found no firewall on this computer that is active.
Windows XP SP2 allows you to turn the firewall on and off by going to your computer properties. SP1 does not have a firewall option anywhere in properties or in the control panel. I have searched.
