Add static to sound?

Well, this may sound silly, but i'd like to have a less clear sound, and in a particular way.

I fly IL2 Forgotten Battles / Pacific Fighters online, and i wish i could make TS sound like a WW2 aircraft radio. Now the sound is so clear it's killing immersion ;)

Any way to make it so?

Change the channel codec to Speex 5.2kbit/s or so. That should deteriorate quality good enough.
Also, there might be voice changing software that lets you put filters over the input signal. If you dampen everything below 200Hz and above 1kHz you might get bad enough quality. You could add a bit of white noise as well to make it sound more authentic.

My buddies like to use higher quality codecs so changing it is out of the question... besides, a low quality codec distorts the sound in a "wrong" way :p
