View Full Version : HP notebook compatibility issues
Hey all,
After spending the better part of 2 weeks on the phone with HP tech support and sending in my notebook for repair, I am still unable to use teamspeak and fs9 in a multiplayer game without getting the BSOD after 3 minutes of play. The error message says that it's a device driver that causes the crash however HP has stated that there is something within these two programs that while they are running together causes instability and in turn a BSOD shutdown. If ANYONE has any info that can fix this please let me know. Either to get into the zone for games or by IP it all does the same thing. This is a brand new notebook and it should be able to handle these programs together without a problem.
Have you tried to use WAV instead of DirectSound in TS ? If not give it a go

Def. not if you do not post more info. We can't guess the error message you get
The error message is as follows.
Trap_Cause_Unknown
Stop:0x00000012 (0x00000002, 0x8001003b, 0x00000000, 0x00000000,)
This is the only error number given to me and this is what is printed on the BSOD prior to reboot. When I submitted the error to microsoft that's when they came up with the "device driver has caused" however they are not able to say which device at this time. There is no error number with that message.
If I find new information I will certainly post it.

Also just tried Wav and direct sound and get the same problem. Thanks for the attempt though.

if mircotrash said it could be to a driver did you try to update all your drivers on your laptop ? ie sound , even if sound is on the mother board there should be drivers out for it , as well as video drivers , and drivers for the mother board it's self directx to 9.0c latest dx out . happy hunting hope ya get it working

yup, good luck.
If you use USB devices, unplug them and test again. Bad USB drivers have been the cause of many BSOD's in the past as reported here.

hmmm, I hardly doubt it's a problem with teamspeak at all...
still I'd be interested what other applications like ventrilo or skype do with your computer when playing that game...
If they also cause these crashes I'd bet on a problem with capturing the mic while in game...
Would also be nice if you could test the game with TeamSpeak on another system, maybe not a laptop...

I have tested the two programs with another notebook and a desktop and they work fine when not on an HP computer. the one at the office is a dell and my friends notebook is a gateway. However I installed both programs on my wife's notebook which is also an HP and had the same problem. it's got to be something with HP.
I am having issues with the exact same error on an hp laptop but it happens while I am running World of Warcraft. The error message is exactly the same and I have been unable to get help for almost 3 months now not even 5 different tech geeks could figure it out. I think HP has some serious compatability issues.

HP has support forums that might help, and there's also some user mailing lists.

Which model of HP? HP merged with Compaq so a lot of today's HP laptops are really re-labeled Compaq's.
I've got a ZE4365 and it works great with TS together with Tribes 2. I've used it with BF1942 and UT2004 but that's a bit too much load for that model. Serious Sam 2 works well.
I have the pavilion zd7389CL notebook. After sending my notebook into HP they flashed the hard drive and updated the bios and that's it. They then told me that it was a compatibility issue and that it was not resolvable with these two programs. My question is that there are far less capable computers that are able to handle both of these programs without problem so what is it in the HP system that is unable to run these programs.

for those that are using an older linksys router you must have UPNP enabled or this will not work and it will throw you into the BSOD. Just changed the settings today and have not had a single problem.
this could be the answer to my problem as well, i use an HP pavillion zd7000 laptop, and have bsod within 2 hours of having game and TS running. i also connect through a linksys router on main house hold desktop. How do i enable UPNP? Thank you
the setting to enable UPnP (universal plug and play) in the linksys router model BEFW11S4 ver 2 and may work with some others is under the password tab in the router configureation site.
