View Full Version : Full path for whisper definitions (but not move defs)

As it is now, TS2 only uses the local path for both whispers and moves. This is good for moves, not so good for whispers.

Let me explain...

I run comms for one or the other side of large battles in the game Fighter Ace. I setup the server channels hiarchy something like:

Command (Airmarshal and Comms officer)
Black Group
...flight1 (4-16 players)
...flight2 (4-16 players)
...flight3 (4-16 players)
...etc...
Blue Group
...flight1 (4-16 players)
...flight2 (4-16 players)
...flight3 (4-16 players)
...etc...
Red Group
...flight1 (4-16 players)
...flight2 (4-16 players)
...flight3 (4-16 players)
...etc...
Green Group
...flight1 (4-16 players)
...flight2 (4-16 players)
...flight3 (4-16 players)
...etc...
Etc......

To move between channels, I have a hotkey setup to move to each channel. For instance <right ctrl+numpad2> will move you to the Blue Group channel. From there, <right shift+numpad3> will move you to the flight3 sub-channel within the Blue Group main channel. This is good because it means that 9 main channels each with 9 sub-channels can be navigated using only 18 keybinds, not 81.

However, whispering to the sub-channels works the same way. As a result, you can only whisper to sub-channels within the same main channel you are in. This is not good. This would not be a problem if the subchannels were uniquely named, but such unique naming would defeat the nested moving capability described above.

It would be good to (optionally) be able to select the full path to a sub-channel (perhaps by checking a box next to the channel list pulldown). In this way, a key could be assigned to whisper to "Blue Group/flight1" even if in the Red channel.

The place where this would be useful would be when you have a floating command structure (to accomodate replacement of killed/respawned commanders) where the "flight1" sub-channel of each group holds that groups commanders. As it is now, there is no way for the leaders in the "Command" channel to whisper directly to flight1 of the various sub-channels.

I have been able to work around this using the "channel commander" function, which works very well. I just point this out because I see it as a minor weakness in the whisper keybind controls.

Thank you,
