Hey All,
I've been using Teamspeak with my brother to play World of Warcraft. It may sound odd but we like playing with headphones over speakers directional sounds are better. Anyway we wanted to use teamspeak to communicate as typing gets tiresome and takes too long.
Previously we have setup teamspeak to use SpeeX 25.9Kbit. I read somewhere that 19.5Kbit has virtually no difference in quality and takes up less bandwidth so I've also tried using that. While speaking we obviously notice a bit of distortion in the speech which I suppose can be lived with but whats kinda of annoying is the delay. We are connected across a 100mbit Lan and the computers are like 20 feet away through walls. I don't see why we should have a delay considering how much data can be transferred through 100mbit lines.
So my question is is there anyway to speed up(lower) this delay? My teamspeak server is also on the same lan sitting right next to my computer and its running on a 2.4ghz 1gig RAM Gentoo Box. So I doubt it could be processor requirements.
My first thought would be that possibly the server is using my cable modem to go outside(to the internet) and then back in. I will try setting stuff up with internal ips tonight and see if that helps.
Also is SpeecX 25.9K the best quality we can get? Given that at best my Cable Modem needs 5Mbits download speed that leaves me with 95Mbits on the lan. (obviously I realize those are just fictional numbers and never achievable)
Please help me out guys
Thanks
