I have installed the server on a linux Fedora Core 3 System. I can Access the server through my local network but not through the internet. Is there a firewall setting on the linux box that could cause this issue? Or is it my router?

I have the exact same problem. Fedora Core 3, access works from localhost, but not anywhere else. I've read all the FAQs I could find and most of the posts on this board. Port 80 to Apache works fine. Are the other ports disabled by default? Do I need to do something to httpd.conf?

Ports are forwarded and all that. I'm not a newbie to networking, but I am to linux. Thanks.

guys, there is a "no reply" FAQ. I'd say there's (hopefully) everything included in there =>

- you have a router which is not configured properly (port forwarding, firewall)
- your server machine has a firewall

usually one of these two things is the root cause. Sry, can't tell you about a firewall of FC3 as I don't use this distro, but I guess iptables will tell you =>
iptables -L

I guess I'll start with a fresh linux install. I built this server for another purpose originally. I'll grab a FC1 distro (just like the noob linux tutorial, which was very good) and if that doesn't work, it has to be my router settings (although I don't know what I've done wrong!)

Thanks.

bigboom,

i did a fresh FC3 install and it works now. i have a feeling last time i installed linux i checked the firewall installation option. i left it unchecked this time (my router is my firewall...) and it went off without a hitch. Hope that solves your problem as well. I don't know enough about linux to know how to disable, edit the firewall config once it's there. I'm sure some of these guys do :D
