*HFE*overdose

I know it sounds like a quick "why don't you plug in your mic stupid, and/or turn it on" kind of problem but i have already gone over that. The mic works fine in normal win2k usage. Even when teampspeak is on and i am connected to the loopback server i can still here my voice through the speakers (or headphones) WHILE i am speaking. When i press the voice activation pushkey i get nothing returned to me except a bunch of sometimes very awful and noisey static which gets louder each time it is looped back to me (even with the headphones on). This was with shift as the push key. An interesting thing happened when i tried to use z as the pushkey... z caused the windows default beep (ping) to sound and if i held it down the beeps (pings) would get louder as they were looped back. This with the headphones on leads me to believe that teamspeak seems to think that my microphone is actually output sound driver or something.
Any ideas?
