help for my friend

ok, my friend is the one that hosts the server for our game. Yesturday he had a power surge and his comps internet connection went on the frits. It still connects to the internet, but it no longer has an IP address. It now finds it automatically. He nor I know how to fix this. His comp and the other comp in his house is on a linksys router. Is this something that his local IP would have to provide help with or is this strictly something that is on his end. Any help would be appreiated. Thanks in advance.

have him call his internet service provider , they can check his modem , and even walk him thru how to reset his modem and his router , over the phone
