my mic sounds &^%$* over teamspeak

apparently my mic sounds &^%$* over teamspeak...

i've got this setup:

-> windows xp (service pack 2)
-> creative labs soundblaster live 5.1 (dell drivers)
-> teamspeak (2.0.32.60)
-> Plantronics Audio 90 Headset (card jack, not usb)

i know soundblaster cards can cause feedback, and drivers can cause distortion. i get both at times.

i also had codec problems when i used ventrilo. sometimes it worked fine, and sometimes it was distorted, and i had to re-connect to fix it.

i don't want to buy a new soundcard if i can help it. but what cards do you guys use? what setup do you recommend?

On one of my gaming systems, I have the exact same headset (Audio 90) connected to an Augidy 2 card and I'm very happy with it. Plantronics makes some great "value" priced headsets.

Please elaborate on how it became apparent that your mic sounds like &^%$* and it's possible someone will have a solution.

thanks for the reply. from what i'm told it sounds distorted and loops. that's what it sounds like using teamspeak's "activate local test mode" option anyway.

i think i've fixed my problem...

Problem: Feedback.
Solution:
Windows Volume: Select Microphone, not Stereo Mix, in Record Control panel. Set Microphone volume to Maximum.

Problem: Distortion.
Solution:
Sound Settings: Use high quality Codec e.g. Speex 25.9Kbit.
Sound Devices: Do not select "Force 8 bit recording".
Set Sound Driver to Wave, not Direct Sound.
Bandwidth: Set Upload/Download Bandwidth to "unlimited".
