View Full Version : Solving Disconnection problem

I have been reading a lot of messages by people who are plagued by disconnections.
I want to solve this problem now :)
So what i need: People who have this bug, and time to work with me.
To start, reply to this thread. Mention these things:
1: Client Version
2: The disconnection message (timeout / quit / etc)
3: Your CPU
4: Your connection type (modem/cable/dsl and up/down speeds if you know them)
5: If you know it, your motherboard and chipset.
6: When does it occur? Always xx minutes after connecting? Or xx minutes after being silent? Or xx minutes after there was total silence? Does it ever happen when YOU are talking? Does it ever happen when you are in a game?
I will also release a binary this weekend which will have extra debug info for analyzing this disconnection bug. When its released, i would like some debuglogs of a client that disconnects, without disconnecting/stopping
Your help will make ts2 better, so please help :)

While you are at it :D maybe you could look in to the problem with bad sound with Turtle Beach Santa Cruz soundcards in some games like ut2003 and so on. It's sending a iretating backgrund sound when you speak, sounds like a Hellicopter or car engine :(
Works fine in XP but when the game starts, bah... :/
TS2 and UT works fine.
Best Regards

I think itīs a problem belonging to the server!
On one of our servers we have that disconnect problem, on the two others not!
N. Werensteijn
07-12-2002, 19:52
In some (most?) cases it will be traffic related.
I want to find out if there are also instaces were it is software (ts client/server) related.
Here is my reply
1: Client Version: 2.0.25.25
2: The disconnection message (timeout / quit / etc): Closest thing I can find to an error message in the log file is : 04-12-02 17:23:49,ERROR,All,StoreReceivedPacket, playerid 1 not found : However, it seems that service doesn't disconnect either or any user, it just ceases to send (and receive as well occasionally) sound. Forcing the user to manually log in and out again.
3: Your CPU: Athlon AMD-900 Mhz
4: Your connection type (modem/cable/dsl and up/down speeds if you know them): Cable - unlimited up/512 down
5: If you know it, your motherboard and chipset: ASUS A7V - Socket A
6: When does it occur? Always xx minutes after connecting? Or xx minutes after being silent? Or xx minutes after there was total silence? Does it ever happen when YOU are talking? Does it ever happen when you are in a game? :
The 'disconnection' is always random for us it seems. It happens more frequently while playing NWN multiplay, however, when just simply chatting it will cut off as well. Sometimes it happens after an extended period of silence, sometimes the service will stop transmission mid sentence. The most common scenario is that I sit on the server, speaking to another person off server. They can hear me talking however to me I can only hear dead air. To fix they have to manually disco and recon.
(to me it seems more of a timeout rather than a true disconnection .. could be wrong though :p )
... Hope that helps ...

you are talking more about sound not comming through than the client disconnecting. Thats an different problem. However.. uploading your zipped log to this forum would help me get a good look
Here is the server.log. Hope you can help. Zipped as requested:

No disconnect message?
Do you hear a the voice "Link Disengaged" ? If not how do you know you are disconnected?
There should be a message in blue saying "connection closed" or "connection timeout" or stuff like that.

New binaries are released.
Please use the new client (2.0.26.27). If you still have problems, please post here, and also add a debug log of a session where you were disconnected. Dont forget to zip it.

2: timeout
3: Athlon XP1600
4: Dsl 128 up 768 down

6: most I timed out if there was total silence (but I know from other people who timed out every30 sec.!)
And I here the Sound voice "Link Disengaged"
how can I find the debug log? Is it the server.log?
N. Werensteijn
12-12-2002, 02:27
the client log is "tsclient.log"
It is made when you set loggin to debug in tsclient options, and restart ts, or if you start ts with "teamspeak -d"
do you (or that guy) have that problem on our public severs? ( teamspeak://voice.teamspeak.org:9500 )

that is the TSClient.log not a debug log, because i didn't found the debug mode, but now I found ist! :D
It's very funny...sometimes I will fly ervery 10 secs the whole time! Othertimes i don't fly from the server!
mostly i fly from teh server if i was alone on the server ;)

Disconn Msg: I get the voice message "connection to the server has been terminated", and the "Player has timed out" written message.
I get disconnected when I join a game of RTCW, havn't tested it on anything else. Three other people in my clan can use it fine without being timed out, one on dialup, so that can't be my prob. I can use teamspeak and play Wolfenstein in windowed mode, but the second I go fullscreen I timeout???
Here's my TSClient.log, it's too long to post here, so you'll have to download it here:

Thats why i asked you to zip it
The client is disconnecting because it is not getting enough data from the server.
This can be caused by a few things (in order of likely hood)
1. Your download connection is full
2. Your Upload connection is full
3. Your connection has a lot of packet loss
4. Software error in the server.
5. Software error in the client.
Can you give me some info on how good your connection is? What codec were you using? were you playing a game while this happend?
SAUnforgiven
14-12-2002, 03:44
I'm using a 56k modem, connecting from 50.6k to 44.6k
A friend of mine uses teamspeak2 and it's fine for him, doesn't lag at all, and I normally get a lower ping than his in a game.
What happens is that I can connect to the teamspeak server, chat and everything, but the moment I try connect to a Return to Castle Wolfenstein game (I havn't tested on anything else), I get timed out. For some reason I can play Wolfenstein in windowed mode, but not in fullscreen. I can connect to Wolfenstein fine and play in windowed mode, but the second I go fullscreen I get timed out. I'm sort of a newbie to techy stuff, how do I find my codec?
N. Werensteijn
14-12-2002, 03:57
just select the channel and see the codec on the right.
Other questions:
How long does it take for you to go to fullscreen of wolfenstein?
SAUnforgiven
14-12-2002, 04:31
Codec: CELP 5.1 Kbit
And for fullscreen, it only takes like 2 seconds to go fullscreen, but it has to load a map, so it would take about say 8-12 seconds to load the map
N. Werensteijn
14-12-2002, 05:17
Hmm teamspeak takes 15 seconds to time out.
If Windows XP somehow does not allow modem traffic in and/or out in that loading period, YOUR timeout might be explained.. And will be fixed in rc2.
Still leaves other people

etorres
i assume you are using version 2.0.26.27 ?
I would realy like a debug log.
(in settings->options set loggin to debug, restart ts, connect, timeout, quit, look for tsclient.log, zip that and post it here)
1: Client Version ts2.0.26.27
2: The disconnection message timeout
3: Your CPU 1.9GHZ
4: Your connection type (modem/cable/dsl and up/down speeds if you know them) 56k modem
5: If you know it, your motherboard and chipset.
6: When does it occur? Always xx minutes after connecting? Or xx minutes after being silent? Or xx minutes after there was total silence? Does it ever happen when YOU are talking? Does it ever happen when you are in a game?
it can happen at anytime doesnt matter if in game or not and talking or not there is no time limit it will just timeout when it wants to.

zen-taw: thanks for the log
It seems the client is just not receiving data from the server any more.
This can be a server bug, or a connection problem
So the question is, does this happen to you on other servers? Say the teamspeak servers? if so, could you get into contact with me to do some 1 on 1 testing?
well i have tried it in 3 TAW servers and all are the same but i havent tried ts public server i will try it today and repost
ok i have been trying different options and i think i have got the correct options now coz its stopped timing out
if it starts again i will let u know
options below
sound driver = direct sound
Direct sound buffer size = half
process priority = high
thanks for ya help
nope its still there, i have been watching it closly and i it happens ingame when it is about to happen it causes a major connection interupt and times out my game freezes when it is about to happen but when i hear you have been disconnected then the game is ok again
i tried it on a ts public server and i cant seem to get the fault to appear
thanks

I've started to encounter Time-Outs on a regular occurance with one particular TS Server (WinXP Platform).
This server is a free based server provided by completronics.com.
I am using the latest Client Version (*.26.27) on a WinXP Machine.
AthlonXP 2100
1GB PC2100 DDRAM
120GB HDD
ADSL Connection
I've included the log of a connection to the ISP TS Server.
I was able to stay connected for a length of time before I noticed my 1st time-out. Upon reconnection (have auto-reconnect enabled), I timed-out within seconds again.
This usually occurs quite often, especially with this server. I use to have similar issues with other TS Server, but never on the scale where I'd time-out regularly and often.
i have now had a server hosted by comletronics.com also but on a linux server which seems to be better but i get the odd timeout here and there but not as often as with winxp based
N. Werensteijn

Is that on the same network? or also a different one? (location)
paul_londonlad
07-01-2003, 21:31
*N. Werensteijn - >>> Same location!
Yes I was originally on a Linux server with them. Which I wasn't timing out as much as I am with their WinXP TS Server.
At current I've been informed that completronic.com have a T1 connection, which by March 1st is to be upgraded to a OC3.
I'm guessing part of the time out issue is due to bandwidth.
There are anything upto 50 TS Servers spread across a few machines; running on a mixture of XP & Linux.
I'm also informed the WinXP TS Server I am on is heavily utilized with the other TS connections/servers which are shared on the server.
I don't have the machine specs to further assist.

We have several machine on the network. I would say your dealing with Bandwidth issues. Which we hope to rid you of by March 1st.
Even tho you should still not be timing out as much as you say. I will look more into this.

N. Werensteijn,
I've included the logs for my client connections to your Public TS Server #3
Beware this is a very very large log (almost 40MB, compressed into 2.5MB)
I was timed out on a number of occasions, both while gaming and while not gaming. (Game: Ghost Recon).
I also encountered an issue which has been previously mentioned; That issue being able to see more than 1 person (under the same Nickname) - Seems when the person moved to sub-channels, his Nickname would also stay in the previous channel he was in.
[Added after attempting to post]
The attachment is too large, is there an email address, or another place I can send you the file?

We are aware of that issue, thank for mentioning it though :)
Ill look at the logs
Niels@teamspeak.org
1,ts2.0.26.27 client
2,connection timed out
3,1.7ghz
4,dsl connection
5, i get disconnected after 10 secs every time

You need to get the updated version.Click Here (http://www.teamspeak.org/download.php?op=getit&lid=23)
Check and make sure you are using this version, as the old versions have time bombs in them.
Edited because I realised after I posted you were talking about the client, sorry for this.:confused:

The exact same thing is happening to a friend of mine except in Unreal Tournament 2003. He starts Teamspeak client connects to my server and then starts UT2003 and when it goes full screen he gets disconnected but he can play in window mode.
I know he is running Windows ME not really sure of much more of his pc stats I will talk to him and post back with that info and I will try to have him place his log here as well.
ok i solved the getting disconnected by switching to key to talk setting now my speech is not clear to others and when i do test on all codecs its clear

just wondering if TS uses DCom ?
a few ppl on my server have same problem of timeing out .
some it happens to more often then others.
With reference to SAUnforgiven's post in this thread (disconnect
due to time out while playing RTCW esp. when changing from
windowed mode to full screen, which causes 10-12 secs delay
due to map reload) one of my team mates has the same prob.
Have you thought about letting the client user specify (e.g. in
the config file) how long to wait before disconnecting ? That
would come very handy...

1: Client Version : Teamspeak 2 v 2.0.32.60 Windows Client
2: The disconnection message "[18:47:50] Connection timed out"
3: Client Processor: Athlon 2100+ / Server Processor: Intel PIII 500
4: Cable 512Kbps down/128 Kbps up.
5: Client Motherboard and chipset, Abit KG7 AMD 761/VIA VT82C686B
6: Client disconnects randomly within a few minutes of initiating a connection from the client. Happens when talking, when not talking. Connection can last seconds, to several minutes.
7: Client Operating System Windows 2000 SP4
8: Teamspeak Server version: 2.0.19.40
9: Teamspeak Server Operating System Windows 2000 SP3
Here's some of my observations....
This seems to be server related, or perhaps how the server maintains activitity indication with the client.
I was observing the real-time indication of client connection status, initially the "Bandwidth, Last second In" was varying from 24.00 to 20.00. This is with my microphone muted, the indication remains at this level indefinitely.
Then, I turn on my microphone, and wait very quietly, nothing changes....then I make the first sound....at that very instant, the outspeed climbs from 212bytes/sec to 1.07KB/s, meanwhile the in-speed drops to 0.00 and stays at 0.00 for many seconds, I have noticed that the server is truly not sending any packets back to the client. And the disconnects occur when the server fails to resume sending this 24bytes/sec traffic back to the client. Other attempts, the server resumes transmitting and the client in-speed comes back to 24bytes/sec, but it seems to periodically jump down to 0.00. It never maintains the solid 24, as it did prior to making that first sound. However, as long as the server successfully resumes transmitting back to the client, the client will remain connected indefinitely. But the server is not always successful at doing this.
This server activity seems abnormal to me. I would think the client needs a continuous stream of activity from the server, and while the client never fails to send to the server, sometimes, when there is no real sound coming into the server, it simply sends nothing back to the clients and eventually the clients interpret this as a connection loss. During these events, the server is not even attempting to send packets to the clients.
I observe all this activity by running the server on cable-modem, and connecting to it with my client through dialup. The computers are adjacent to one-another in my house.
Thank you in advance for your efforts on this application. It is without a doubt the best voice chat program ever created, don't ever forget to pat yourself on the back and know you are appreciated!
Mit fruendlichen Grosse,
Brad
I am including only one non-zipped log trace of a login and disconnect, as all subsequent disconnects are exactly the same, only time between connect/disconnect is different.

I even called my isp to hear they don't support TeamSpeak. After I join our TeamSpeak Server (tss.lastbosses.com:8790) I switch channels a couple times and 5 seconds later I'm stuck in the channel I last chose, then I hear connection disengaged. I even downloaded the new client I was using the previous version and I suppose the server is using the latest version. After I get kicked off I can't rejoin the server for a while, and even when I do get back on the server I lose my connection in the next 5 seconds.
I sure hope I can get this resolved life without TeamSpeak isn't easy.
[09:14:26] Connecting to tss.lastbosses.com:8790
[09:14:29] No reply from server
Maybe the server is offline
or maybe teamspeak is not running on it
Is there anything we should try like using older versions of TeamSpeak or is someone looking into a fix or what, very curious at the moment.
I read elsewhere in the support forum that enabling debug logging may fix this problem is it true and why would it solve this problem?
Motherboard: ASUS P4GE-V

I can connect to most servers, but the one of my clan sinds a week not.

In the server ( who my friend hosts ), he gets
Toverli timed out
SO in short for some reason i get time outs on Login step 2
I have read many topic on time out on this forum. I am not the only one with this probs. The server has FULL DUPLEX 100MB ( so no netwerk probs )
I have used different verison of TS, always the same shit! ( so that not it either!)
The only thing i can geus its something @ server side BUT WHAT?
NO IP BLOCKS
Everybody else get in.
I used an other PC in my home network, the same probs.
Anyone Feel free
Its not easy playing wars without TS :/
You have been diconnected from server ?
Ok I have TS served on a 850 amd with 512 mem and Win2000 pro. Works fine, but I would like to turn this machine into a server for IL2 FB.
So I built a Pentium 3 667 ,512 ram WIN2000 pro. It will host just fin for about 3 to 5 minutes, Then it kicks me and all else on it off the server and won't let us back on till, I go shut down TS and restart it. So we get back on and it does it all over again. It doesn't give me nay errors. Other than it says "you have been disconnected from the server.
I copy pasted files from 850 machine and pasted them over on the 667 after a fresh install of TS on it.
Before you say reinstall I have and set it up without the copy paste thing , same same still gives us the boot.
It should be a big enough system wouldn't you think.

1: Client Version: 2.0.32.60
2: The disconnection message: No reply from server maybe the server is offline or is not running teamspeak, and now its connecting then before it shows the channels or users on the server it timesout.
3: Your CPU Pentium 1.7 ghz
4: Your connection type LAN
5: If you know it, your motherboard and chipset. Not sure
6: When does it occur? When trying to connect to any server it can take up to a hour or even longer to finally connect to a server.
reuploaded the tsclient log so that it shows this time out and also shows a few no reply disconects.

Error occurs af x minutes most of the time between 3 to 6 minutes. Client does not crash or hang, but says time-out. Server seems to be working although when i reconnect with client it says:
[21:55:29] No reply from server
Maybe the server is offline
or maybe teamspeak is not running on it.
It also happens (time out) when i log in locally on own server (client runs on same machine as client)
Codec: CELP 5.1 Kbit
My friend uses same versions and his comp is connected directly to a cable modem and he doesn't have any problems. Same PC config as me. His ISP name is Chello Cable and it's 1500/512
But if we setup server on my client we got problems :)
Perfect System setup to test both devices have same specs

If you connect to an TS-Server (2.0.19.40) and after 2-3s you got a "connection timed out" ...
... then download the latest Firmware and Upgrade-Tool:
http://www.allnet.de/ftp/pub/allnet/router/all1294a/Upgrade_207.zip
http://www.allnet.de/ftp/pub/allnet/router/all1294a/Manual.pdf
... this worked for me ...

To start, reply to this thread. Mention these things:
1: Client Version: 2.2.0.32.60
2: The disconnection message: Your connection to the server has been terminated
3: Your CPU: P4 2.6GHz
4: Your connection type: dsl 3Mbps/600Kbps
5: Ifmotherboard and chipset.:Intel 865G
6: When does it occur? seems pretty random, could not find any relation so far, when I play Americas army, but I don't use it much other then that.
Is this topic still open or do I need to stick it where the sun don't shine?
I've put my entire clan on this, cause it happens to most of us, The server worked flawlessly until last week, since then, we disconnect periodically at what seems to be random intervals.
Thanks for any help you can provide
PS: This connection termination occured at 20:31:29
It happened again once more.
So I'm including my zipped client log, the info in the previous post still applies, no timing can be extrapolated on this one either.
Is there anything on the server side I could include??
This disconnection occured at 22:02
in fact, you'll get both disconnection in this attached log file.
If you need anything else, just let me know.
Regards FrankK
You want someone to help you finding problems, I'm it
Here's a third log file.
And a fourth! :D
This time I got a message in the chat window:
[10:59:24] Connection closed
I had the problem I got disconnected when trying to connect from XP pro machines to my linux server... the linux client connects perfectly with the server...
anyway.. my findings for XP are the following... on my desktop I had a shortcut.. when trying to launch from there it still had the problem.. the line as target was "C:\Program Files\teamspeak2_RC2\TeamSpeak.exe" (with the qoute thingy's)
then I edited it to "C:\Program Files\teamspeak2_RC2\TeamSpeak.exe" -d
(with a space between the " and -d and all of a sudden it started connecting to my server and it worked fine :) dunno what happened.. I was hoping to get it to log more with the -d thingy.. but it did more then I expected... it just worked..
so far it worked for me on 2 PC's running XP pro/home and for 2 of my friends as well :) I hope this fixes the problem for some other people as well :) its with the newset TS version that is available now..

seems as if this problem can be solved by changing the log-level in ts-client to debug... don't ask why, I don't know ;)
settings / options / other / log options --> debug
if this doesn't work, feel free to read through this whole thread and try solving the problem, still we're currently working on ts3 so this thread is closed.
