When I first started I set up my server on a Win 2k rig running a D-Link Di-624. Install went flawless. Opened up the webadmin and set up my server. Good to go! Went to my router webinterface and started poking around. Set up virtual-server to forward UDP 8767? Check! Check firewall to make sure its allowed thru? Check! Set up host as static IP on the LAN? Check! Everything looks great, lets connect! Connect using internal LAN IP thru my lan? Check! Test tranmission with 2 seperate Clients? Check! :D Now to let the world get to my very own Team Speak server. Call my buddy and tell him to log on! He sees me on the server list and tries to log on........"No reply form server, Maybe the server is offline or maybe teamspeak is not running on it." Lets try the "Quick Connect" same response! So I start poking around. I ran a "tracert" and found some strange IP address inbetween me and my external IP. "launchmodem" what is that crap. So I poke alittle deeper. Lets type the IP into the browser, low and behold my modem interface! Shoulda known that one! No wonder my router had a LAN IP in the WAN IP spot! So we drop the Advanced settings, enable IP Passthrough and turn the connection style from "On-Demand" to "Always ON", save and reboot the modem and the router. Everything looks green now the WAN IP is in the right spot and lines up with the "Your IP's" feature, and whatsmyip.com. Lets see if someone can reach out and touch me yet? Call my buddy back up and tell him to connect..........."Timeout Error" . After calling D-Link Tech Support they tell me the exact same stuff that everyone in the forums tells you! Chat it up with a BellSouth Tech Support E-Chat Agent, he tells me its illegal, against "Terms of Use Agreement" to host a server of any form. Not gonna let the legality of something deter me! After alot of research on a multitude of site, I decided that my trusty DI-624 was crap, so I gave it a drop kick and bought a DGL-4300. Left everything else alone replaced the router, updated firmware, set up Virtual-Server, checked firewall, and called my buddy. Happened about that fast! So if you have a D-Link DI-624, throw it in the trash, and check to see if your router has the right WAN address, if not check your broadband modem setting also.
By the way, the DGL-4300 supports WAN loopback so you can check your server using your WAN IP from a computer on your LAN! ;)
