Noted,
what we tried is:
wave and directsound, slider settings.. Nothing seems to help.
It is a via onboard sound chip. Tried all codecs.
Im experiencing the same problem voltram posted about. I have Soltek's 75drv-x mainboard with VIA's 8366 chipset. i can use my mic with windows' sound recorder without problems, but TS causes by fellow teammates to suffer from loud static noise.
Please info me, if and when you correct the problem.
Thanks already, you do a good job.

Ok problem found and temporarily patched.
The problem:
The ac97 codec reports it can record sound at 16bits. But it can't damn it.
Solotion:
In the rc2 version i will make an option which will force soundcards into 8bit recording.
For now you can use this pached version wich is hardcoded to record at 8bits.

I'm helping a friend of mine to set the client up. For me everything works fine :D (sb live 5.1) but he's using ac97 which, as you mentioned can only record in 8bit resolution.
He downloaded the 8bit patch and ran it in the program directory but then he got this error:
WARNING,All,TMainForm.FormCreate,Exception EProtocol: Error loading Hawlvoice library (hvdi.dll) Maybe not installed?
Suggestions?

you must place that exe over the original teamspeak
Sorry, he had missinterpreted me. We we're chatting over icq, so I guess that gives plenty of opurtunities for misstakes/missunderstandings.
Anyway, thanks for the help, even if it was our fault...

So did the patch work?
Yes, it worked fine. Sound quality is quite good althoug I've got nothing to compare with. No problems at all once I explained once more what was to be done with the file. He though it was some kind of installer....
Regards,
Staffan v2.0-RELEASE
PS.
Maybe it would be a good idea to include a readme/faq/HOWTO for the newbies...
DS.
I have also this problem with VIA AC'97.
But the noice also there when i record with the windows tool...
The patch didnīt help..
Have someone a solution for this problem?

I'm getting similar problems only with a Game Theater XP... I think it might be a driver issue as it has worked perfect in the past. However I read that TS2 works fine with all driver sets on the GTXP... I'm currently running the 6.07s, I'd hate to roll back my drivers just to use TS2 as everything else appears to be working flawlessly sound-wise. I have noticed that my lan card and my GTXP share an IRQ setting and which might be causing problems, but for it only to be in TS2... I'll try reinstallations and rollbacks but it worked before, sucks that it doesn't now :(
I've got a VIA AC'97 as well, and get a lot of static when I speak although other microphone apps work fine. The 8bit patch didn't make any noticeable difference. Any ideas?

I too have the same problem. Sept mine works fine. People hear me crystal clear.. Except there is a 50% chance that I will go static after some strong kernal usage. Like once I load a game/map, I might be static afterwards. Or once I exit the game, I might be static afterwards.
When I go static I have to close TS2 and re-open it again.. But if I'm playing a game I have to minimize the game to close/re-open TS2.. And then when I maximize the game afterwards. There's still a 50% chance I will go static.

Any patches for this yet?

don't download old versions...
all newer versions include old bugfixes... just do as Niels said... go to Settings / Options in the current versions and Force 8-Bit recording.

i have done that but i still cant talk to anyone
I know a guy with the same problems and I'm trying to help him fix it, at the moment I don't have all the details but when I do I'll get back to a bigger post about his problem.
In the mean time here's a handy set-up guide I wrote for my clan which seems to work for most people, if you're still having trouble after that then you better wait for an answer on here.
