I currently live in a large apartment complex exclusively for college students. In this complex, the rooms are fully furnished. There is only one problem, the internet currently disallows me from connecting and maintaining a Teamspeak connection.

The bandwidth to each room comes from two T1 lines which are routed throughout the whole entire complex. To prevent people from abusing it, certain usages (Example: Downloading music through Limewire) are basically forbidden, as the bandwidth allocated to them is so miniscule it is basically unavailable.

I know this to be the case with Teamspeak, it is simply not given enough bandwidth to function properly. I have tried talking to the administrators of the internet here, and they insist there is nothing that they can do about it.

My question, is there any solution? I have tried going into channels where there is a low codec, and I have tried restricting the bandwidth in my options, the fact of the matter is, the bandwidth is so low that sometimes I cannot even connect to Teamspeak!

If anyone knows of any way around this, please share it, as I am between a rock and a hard place. =(

Thanks
Rob

A T1 connection is quite small for a hole building complex. Beside the allocated bandwidth restriction i think the connection is the major problem.

The T1 is enough if you use it for the Inet, even if it´s slows down if there´s a lot of traffic.
TS needs a continuous data stream. Can you imagine that an outgoing transmission of speech is quickley reaching the limit of the connection bandwidth?

If you host the server from your comlex:
A single T1 connection (only for TS) would provide a 40 user TS server, but theres no bandwidth left then. Noteven for inet.

If you connect to a server outside the complex, the bandwidth wouldn´t be enough if the line is used by too much users surfin´ in the net or exchanging mails.
As you´ve already tried to lower the TS bandwidth, it seems to me that a different line for a TS (server) would be a solution. I guess a T2 line would be sufficient for all users including a Teamspeak server.
