View Full Version : Fixing the Software Buffer
From time to time TS completely breaks all sound coming from a software buffer (I know it's a software problem because of various test, creative diagnostic, DX diagnostic only played sounds from hardware and the wave test of Creative Diagnostic was only passed when TS was shut regardless of the TS settings). This happens not too often i'm glad to say but it does happen more regularly in Guild Wars, does anyone know why and how I can fix this problem permenantly or otherwise without logging off and on?

I thought I did a good job of both, and i'm well aware of 'How to ask Questions the Smart Way" thanks :p . Alright, here goes:
Teamspeak breaks sound after a fair while into a game of Guild Wars and sometimes DoD: Source. All sound is broken apart from Teamspeak but that only works if I switch from 'Wave' to 'Direct Input'. 'Creative Diagnostic' (I have a Soundblaster Audigy 2 ZS as you can see in my profile) gives it's 'wave' test a fail and DirectX refuses to play any sounds from a Software buffer but does play those of Hardware buffer. This has happened on both this sound card and my old Realtek AC'97 (a very problematic chipset i'm sure you'll agree).

Oh yes better certainly :). It sounds like a problem with directx or your soundcard driver doesn't it? I see that you are saying you can make the problem "go away" by stopping teamspeak, but here it seems the driver is at fault (even though TS appears to trigger the problem). If avaliable, I would try and get sound-driver and/or directx upgrades and try those.
Edit: some soundcards can't play multple things in hardware, and need the help of directx (afaik wave doesn't do the job), so you should try and make it work with directx...I think :)
