Inconsistancy

I am having some inconsistent connection problems with the client. I am running windows xp and I have all ports forwarded and I know it all works out. Sometimes I am able to connect to the server and sometimes I am not able to. I know the server is running at all times when it does and doesn't work. Is there any way to fix this?

and how do you connect to that server (LAN, WAN,...WLAN) ? If LAN / WLAN: you use only the LAN IP ?
Do you get timeouts ? => tested the debug mode (As suggested in the FAQ) ?
