Hi all,

I just installed ver. rc1_2026 and I am getting a weird error window when it starts and whenever I click on a nic or channel on the main window It says "RichEdit line insertion error". I click ok and it closes the window, but I can't go to self and register. In fact the bottom 4 choices under self are grayed out.

I am running 98se, SB Live 5.1, Athlon 900mhz,GeForce3.

Thanks,

Big

PS I am on cable modem with a Linksys router/switch.

(how do I attach/include a screenshot?)

Ok I got it figured out. My richedit.dll file was corrupted or wasn't the one that TS was expecting. I simply extracted the file from my 98se cd and it is now working.

I had this problem too. I have Win98 SE and a SoundBlaster compatible card. I have DX 9 for EverQuest, but so far TS appears to work (now that the richedit line insertion error is fixed).

Whenever I tried to start TS, it would just immediately bomb with some kind of richedit line insertion error. I also took a snapshot of the errors. I saved the snapshot as a 16 color bitmap (to save their server space and your download time), and it is attached.

I found the original versions of the rich*.dll's by doing this on my system:

ctrl-esc (start menu), R(un), command, enter (to go to a command prompt)

cd \win98
extract /a win98_21.cab rich*.dll
copy rich*.dll \windows\system
y (yes, overwrite)

That fixed it for me. (When I installed Windows 98, I placed a copy of all the *.cab files in \win98 for exactly this kind of purpose. But you didn't do this, you still should be able to run the extract command from the CD, from the directory where the *.cab files are.)

Before I did that I tried downloading the richedit dll's from this site:

http://www.incog.freeserve.co.uk/mxtool.html

That might work, but you might have to copy the riched20.dll to riched.dll, and then copy all three to \windows\system. (I doubt that it would work. It seems likely that there is a conflict between some other software on my system and TS, because some other software needed the newer version of riched*.dll, which was what was in my windows\system directory. So I'll probably eventually end up with the newer ones in \windows\system and the ones from the .cab files in the TS installation directory.)

Hi all,

If I remember correctly, that DLL is also part of an Internet Explorer security update. So you may want to apply all IE security updates just to be on the safe side.

Have you already tried what pbarrette posted just above?

yes, is it possible to get this file without the win98se cd, and if so could someone direct me to it.

Well, if it's part of some Internet Exploder security update you might get lucky with http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com

See Shavais' post right above... I don't know how to get more step-by-step...
