View Full Version : Double Router Dilemma

I recently changed ISP's, going from a DSL service that had a bridge modem to a DSL service that has a router-modem. My home network is currently using a Linksys router. The Router-modem is a greatspeed duo.

basically my setup follows as such:

internet--> greastspeed duo ADSL router --> linksys router -->internal network

when I start my TS2 server, I can connect to it locally, but people can't get into the server from the internet. I've set the router/modem's (66.23.194.1) port forwarding to open port range 8700-8800 both TCP and UDP and forward those ports to my Linksys router (192.168.10.1). The linksys router has those ports forwarded to the TS server IP (192.168.10.101).

I think that the UDP ports are being blocked somewhere in the chain, but I'm not sure. I can surf the web on any of the machines on my network, and have n FTP server running at the same location as the TS server, which can be accessed with no problem.

Suggestions?

Don't know if it will help, but what the heck.

When typing in the ip address do you also include the :8767

and if your running XP pro Operating system do you have the port opened. UDP and TCP

The port for the server admin that needs to be open is 14534

Good luck.

aeh, I can't follow you why you till need the linksys Router from the old ISP ?
Your new router (greatspeed) is as you stat a router-modem. I guess you mean a router with a ADSL modem in it. So why do you need another router ?

If your sure about a UDP conflict, a would recommand posting it in a real router forum.

Thx Malick for taking a swipe at it......

I didn't have the guys typing in the port when trying to connect, I'll try that (though if 8767 is the default for the program, wouldn't that be redundant?)

I'll check the ports on the XP system again to make sure that it's got them available.

Pardon my ignorance, but why does the server admin port need opening if I'm only going to admin the server from themachine it's on? isn't that only so that you can remote admin your TS server?

*grin* to answer your questions guldi......

The Linksys has stayed in my metwork tree for the simple reason that I'm too cheap and lazy to go buy a hub to replace it. *grin*

I have turned the gateway functionality off on my Linksys, so that it's operating as a router only, in an attempt to track the issue. I still can't seem to locate the bottleneck.

As far as posting to a real router forum, IMO some of the best technical guru's in theworld hang out on sites like this. They know what they know through hard-knocks experience. That's the kind of knowledge I'm seeking.

That and should the problem get resloved here it's knowledge for somebody else that may run into this problem. *grin*

Your setup sounds ok, it should work. Altough i have heard lot of people battleing with linksys routers to get the damn thing to work as they want :)

Are you sure the portforwards are working? Maybe try to do the same thing for an ftp server or something and see if you do get that to work.

All ts2 servers need is to map incomming packets on destination port 8767 udp to your 192.168.10.101 machine. (not ourgoing packets with that as source port) I am stating the obvious, but you never know eh?

Also, i am a little confused.
Your modem which is attached to your linksys router should have a 192.168.10.x adress on that connection no ?

IF that is the case, and your linksys is nothing more than a glorified hub, you should let your modem forward directly to 192.168.10.101

XP Pro has the ports closed if the fire wall is enabled. I had to create 8767 UDP and TCP ports.

The server ports is good for your friends to help out. So when your not there, they can help admin for you. I don't know if you need the 14534 UDP port open for remote admin help yet but let me know guys. I am setting up a new server so I am still new at this to. :D

I think there may be some issue there. Why do you have both routers in the first place if the ADSL router works for routing? If you have to have it this way, try forwarding the ports from both routers to the IP address of your PC.
