View Full Version : Codecs sounds really crappy
is it suposed to sound this bad?
iam used to ventrilo and that sounds really nice, but today when i set up a TS server
and some friends connected it sounded REALLY (really really bad)
i have used Teamspeak in the past and it was WAY better then this,
can anyone help me out here?
iam no noob and i know what iam doing tried all the codecs that came with ts and they all sound really bad...
It also depends on the microphone used and how it is used. Some people have it so close to their mouths that they almost eat it. This usually results in bad overamplification and distortion.
nothin to do with the mic, tried the vent server sec after and everything was fine,
i mean god it really sound like shit :(
i love teamspeak it has so many nice features, in ventrilo all u can do is talk and ventrilo also looks is crap, feels like a win98 program but the codecs is uber...

I loved using Ventrilo myself.... Used it for many years..... But I decided to give teamspeak a try.... Im kinda a noob setting it up..... And frankly I TOO thought it sounded like crap... all my friends sounded like they had the robot voice... I thought it was my friends crappy mics.... but to my dismay... they told me my mic sounded like crap too.
So I played around with all the codecs and they ALL sounded crappy. Not one was different ...UNTIL, I changed the channel to accept one particular codec... And VOILA... Everyone sounded great. I'm still not sure which codecs use the least bandwidth but personally im using GSM 14.8 Kbit .
The list in the server selection differs from the client view... Both client and server were downloaded at the same time... I wish they would give you a rundown on which codecs go with what....and show the rate highest to lowest.
Just thought I'd give my 2 cents worth.
CELP 5.1Kbit, GSM 14.8Kbit, Speex 25.9Kbit... sounds like rundown enough to me
