TeamSpeak is great, but I have a important question. I can't seem to find a good answer to it.
What kind of CPU/RAM do I need to run TeamSpeak smoothly on a linux server with the ability to host 'teamchats' for 25, 50, 75, 100 and 200 users?

TeamSpeak 2 Linux Server - Minimum Requirements
* Distribution of Linux
* For a console Linux box (without running a graphical user interface like an X server or equivalents) a Pentium 100 MHz processor and 32 MBytes of RAM will suffice
* For a Linux box with a graphical user interface we recommend a Pentium 166 MHz processor with 64 MBytes of RAM
That's not 'news' for me. This could very well describe a server that's suitable for a 2 person chat. I recon that the minimal or even recommended requirements for a linux server that's needs to allow 50 people to 'conference' would be much much higher. The question is, what would those requirements be?

As has been said nummerous times before. You can literally run your TS server on a toaster. All it does is redirecting traffic and if you happen to have a p200 it will be fast enough for 50 people. Bandwidth is the issue.

What strikes me odd is that people keep asking this question. If you do happen to have a p200 or something very old, why don't you simple try it rather then rely on information given here. If you don't have a spare computer anyway, even the cheapest piece of chunk that you can get today will be more than fast enough (given that this cheapest piece of chunk does have a network-card which does actually run reliable).

And if you don't believe that TS doesn't need a lot of CPU, just think again. The TS server does nothing spectacular. It gets a soundstream and forwards the same stream to every client who is supposed to hear it. In other words. It is nothing more than a router and we all know that routers don't exactly need a silicon graphics 32 cpu mainframe to run on ;)

I've heard it said that if you can get the server to run at ALL, it's enough to run a server for <100 people.

Why am I asking this? Simple.
I want to use it in a more or less corporate (at least commercial) environment. Before I spend money, I need to know exactly what I'm getting myself into.
Note: I WAS thinking about using Asterisk, but it seems I would have to buy a new computer just to run that :eek: Since I'm an open-source guy, I would've given them the benefit of the doubt, but the difference is just too big. Guess I have to buy TS :D

Why do people keep asking it?
Probably because the things you know aren't mentioned on the official website. It would be a fine addition to the featurelist/faq/whatever.
