View Full Version : Problem with mouse acceleration and teamspeak
When I open up teamspeak for some unknown reason my mouse acceleration gets disabled.
I can fix it by going in to mouse properties select mouse acceleration and put it higher, do apply then set it to what i want and press apply again.
The problem is when someone joins it suddenly changes again!
So while I'm playing I hear 'blah joined the channel' and then my mouse acceleration gets turned off and I can't play anymore (well, mouse sensivity and acceleration settings are very important for aiming!).
Tech info:
I'm behind a router and have 2 machines connected.
One is Teamspeak server:
PII266
32MB RAM
Win 98
Then the other is client and gaming machine:
PIV2000
512MB RIMM RAM
SB Audigy Player
Logitech MX500 with latest mouseware (v0.95 or something like that).
Windows 2000
---
So anybody knows a fix for this? It's very anoying I can't use teamspeak like this! I'm very happy with the audio quality tho and it doesn't realy use much bandwidth so that's ok too!

Well one quick fix would be to run your client from the TS server machine if it has a sound card. Connect mic to "mic in" on server and run a patch from "headphones out" on server to "line in" on workstation and the adjust mixer.
This will also relieve some processing power on game machine, assuming your server can handle the processing load.
There's no soundcard available on the server machine.
There is one init (it's a portable) but it's total crap, no decent line out and is disabled in BIOS and no drivers installed to speed things up.
I just don't understand what the link with teamspeak and my mouse acceleration is
Finaly I found a good program for voice comm, easy server to set up (had some issues with router tho), fast server, doesn't ask much resources, etc... The client is OK too it doesn't crash or anything (unlike Roger Wilco :o ) it's just that mouse accel. problem. I wonder if anyone here has it too ? Maybe it's related to Logitech's crap drivers?

Have you tried disabeling direct input in teamspeak ? (its in options somewhere)
I tryed it, didn't help.
I have some more info:
When I select the 'program box' (dunno exact name, just the teamspeak control panel with the server info and stuff) my mouse acceleration changes even when I'm just into windows. When I start IE and TS goes to background my mouse accel. changes to default again. It's very weird.
So when i'm just at my desktop and I select TS so its the active window then my mouse accel. goes bad, when I click my desktop (and TS isn't selected anymore) then mouse accel. is OK again.
Weird.
I have same problem essentially, and I have additional problem (usb) of mouse cutting out for 3 secs at a time, gaming pretty difficult.
Well It may sound stupid but I'm happy you have the same problem :)
It means it's realy a bug and not just my pc acting stupid, please dev's take a look at it - if you need ANY information about my system just ask.
Well as a (hopefully temporary) fix I use this now:
Whenever I'm playing and TS messes up mouse acceleration I do ctrl-esc (which selects the start menu and not teamspeak) then I press escape (to put the start menu back down) and then I still have a moue pointer instead of my mouse being aim but I just do a click with my button and I'm back in game, this takes 3 keypresses so its not much to do and it fixes the problem.
If you experience crashes or something or reduced performance due to the 'going back to windows while ingame' then install win 2k like i did its the most stable os from m$. :)

I too like to be up to date on my drivers/bios and service packs, however, I have yet to move to DirectX9.
If you guys wouldn't mind could you try dropping back to DX8.1 and see if that helps? (my concern is your mouse drivers relating to DirectX9.0, there is a possibility those drivers are not yet updated for DX9)
By the way, thanks for taking the time to offer assistance.
Should have noted this before: I intially had dx 8.1 but had installed dx9 to see if this would help. So the problem initially arose in a dx 8.1 environment.
Additionally, see my other posts about how this bug creates mouse pauses such that I have 2-3 second periods of mouse inactivity, and I get the windows beep indicating a usb device is being pulled out and plugged back in.
Rolling back to 8.1 ?!
I know there are tools to uninstall dx but aren't they a bit dodgy?!
I don't know ...
Is there a safe way to do it?
I already had too many formats lately, I'm tired of them :(

Okay go the other way then....check your mouse dirver documentation to see if they are ment for DX9. :)

seems to be a driver issue:

(thx @ Petter_Gul) so feel free to test... :) And report *g*

I'll give it a try - I didn't know about that website!
That software is for 'Wingman' gaming devices, I'm not using any Logitech Wingman gaming devices - my mouse is just a 'Logitech MX500' mouse not from the Wingman series.
Anyway I'll install it but it won't help anything IMO.
Also, I now notice it happens in other applications too! Maybe it IS directx related, maybe programs which support directx9 have this problem or the other way round?!
Anyway I hate it why can't they just code something like it should be so my damn mouse acceleration doesn't change
EDIT: Didn't change anything, as expected.
Anyway when I opent the setup program for this update my mouse acceleration turned off again but when I select my desktop or something else it gets turned on again. This is weird. I hate it.

I would say it is most likely the mouse driver.
I only use the mouse settings built into Windows and never load a mouse acceleration program. For me I don't see the point, but if you wish to run the mouse software I would suggest posting any problems you have with it on a forum dedicated to the hardware and its drivers/software.
Good Luck. :)
Well my thoughts are that in some programs windows doesn't use the 'mouseware' settings but the 'standard windows' settings. I uninstalled the mouseware and now I don't have any problems anymore.
The thing is I'm a gamer - and I mean a real gamer with no social life (ok a little ;) ) and when my mouse sensivity changes I freak out coz then it takes at least a week to get used to it and at least 2 or 3 weeks to get back to my old aiming again.
Anyway thnx, teamspeak is a great prog and the mouse acceleration is not your fault ur doing a great job
bye :D
I read a tread about problems with acceleration using logitech mices with mouseware software...
I had the same problem to... sloved editing the following in the registry..
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Logitech\MouseWare\Cur
rentVersion\GamingCompatibility
in this page delete everything expet the deault value...
I had the acceleration problem with teamspeak and other programs like the hl model viewer and other graphics programs...
by removing all the values in the registry the acceleration work normally with everything...
See ya!
mhc
thnx but ur too late i already adapted to the new sensivity setting and I'm back with killing everything on my way :D
But still good advice I might need it when I try the new mouseware drivers (if they ever release a new version) and maybe I'll need your advice then.
Thnx :)

I had exactly the same problem. Logitech mouse with latest MouseWare, Windows XP SP1 with latest updates. Changing the reg solved the problem. I now have Mouse Accelleration off, and the speed to max. I had to change the sensitivity with some games, but I no longer have this weird problem...
A big thank you to mhc for this bit of information!

u have acceleration off becouse of your personal settings... by removing the registry values u can use accelariation without problems it wont change by loading teamspeak or any other program..
i'm sayng this just to be clear about the problem/solution :D :D

True... with acceleration off I couldn't play DoD (HL mod) because the mouse was to sensitive, moving it 2mm would couse my character to spin 360 degrees, even with the in-game mouse slider set very low.
I also noticed that with the reg settings still there my middle mouse button function was also changed.
It would seem that TS2 uses one of the dll's that's detected by MouseWare as being used by games.
Thanks again,
Willem

Correct.. in simple words the program that u specify in that part of the regisrty will bypass your mousware software settings (acceleration, bottons settings, etc).. i think is usefull if you have compatibility problems with mouseware and a software...
...i still dont understand why the put half-life, other games and all directinput and directx values in there by default??? (directinput was the issue with teamspeak i think..)

Unfortunately DirectInput is required by TeamSpeak to enable things like "Keybinding" and "Push to Talk"
DirectInput can use devices including JoySticks, Mice, TrackBalls, KeyBoards, Peddels, GameVoice Puck, etc....
(Just started looking into DirectX SDK)
Unfortunately DirectInput is required by TeamSpeak to enable things like "Keybinding" and "Push to Talk"
Thats my point, why by defaulf installation logitech mouware is set to bypass settings (accelaration bottons settings) for all directinput apps? and for hl, ut, q3, etc.. I don't get it... with this settings most of games, programs will not use acceleration and personal settings...with the result of having a sensitivity on the desktop different from the one in games/apps... well it;s just... stupid... :(
Anyway just remove those regs values and get back fragging! ;) :D

I guess Logitec was trying to be safe figuring that games or programs in general that use DX would have their own mouse charicteristics built in.
I can see their reasoning. I guess it is up to the user to configure the machine for his own tastes. It would have been nice if Logitec would have built in to their GUI the selection capability of these functions tho.
It would have been nice if Logitech mentioned this somewere on theyr forum or faq LOL!
Yup I agree, and it would be nice if Logitech release some new drivers where u can actualy USE those extra buttons!
(now i just reverted to the default 2k drivers to eliminatie the mouse acceleration problem and to make the extra buttons work)
anyway thnx peeps, there has been more help in this reply then i ever expected :)
