What is the binary download used for?

And what is the Service binary used for?

I just dont have a clue

Downloading a binary means all you will get is the servers executable file (server_windows.exe or server_linux). All you have to do to update your server to the lastest version is to stop the server and replace the old executable with the new one.

The service binary is used to install the server as a windows service on Windows 200x Server or Windows 2k/XP so it will start automatically when rebooting your system.

Please note that the windows server binary has not been updated to the latest version yet.
