View Full Version : ECHO Problem with on board AC97
I have been trying to get this working for weeks. Very frustrating because I have just joined a BF2 clan and it doesn't look good when I can't communicate.
I have a another clan match tomorrow and need this working....will try anything.
System Specs:
Windows XP SP2
A8N - SLI DELUX M/B with O/B AC97 Sound
USB Microphone but also tried regular 3.5mm Jack Mic.
Running: Team Speak 2 Client 2.0.32.60
Troubleshooting preformed:
Muted everything except Mic / Wave / Vol
When I put team speak in local test mode and speak into the mic. All I hear is a terrible echoing sound that goes on forever until I mute the mic.
Reinstalled audio drivers
Reinstalled team speak
Bought a new Mic
Confirmed Mic works ok in other apps such as sound recorder
Note: Team Speak was working OK for a week or so with no probs, I don't know what was changed for it to stop working.
I will try a previous version of team speak when I get home.. Does anyone have d/l link for a previous version? Is this a good troubleshooting step?

No, it's not.
I have been having the same problem using an
AC'97 AC850 onboard sound 7.1
(Mainboard: Asus A8N SLI Premium)
I've installed drivers over and over all kinds of Realtek, nVidia...
even reinstalled Windows
untill i figured out that its ONLY Teamspeak that screws the sound:
Voice activations is triggered by my sounds that go to the speakers... i.e. I am listening to music, my mates in the teamspeak channel can hear it too. I am using headset so none of the sound goes to the mic.
In other words teamspeak pics up all my sounds an sends them as if it all comes from the mic.
Basically everything that I can hear is transmitted.
Btw, yes i checked mic as only input device.
I went through the same procedures... tested on X-Fire voice chat, Windows Audio Recorder
all went fine, didnt here any background sounds. Not even when recorded.
1 more thing, it doesnt matter if its on a WinXPPro or WinXPPro64.
some fix would be awesome.
my m8s want to kill me 4 that they hear my BF sounds...

Who told you to un-mute the mic?
you want mic muted in volume conrol and mic selected in recording control

It applies to the topic starter, you should start your own thread.

I interpreted that quote as badly formed sentence and ignored it, sticking to the other informations...
anyhow new threat... might help me... any idea for a well formated headline?

See if this helps...

ok, i followed those instructions.
basically what i had to do was uncheck a few Volume Controls and set the sound devices in the teamspeak options to the brandnamed ones (dont see where the difference is since that device is the only one and therefore should be the "primary"). Set Sound Buffer Size to better quality too.
Never the less i see it as a success because I now can use Teamspeak2 again.
Don't get me wrong, the echo is still there, just very silent... silently enough ;)
thx 4 the help
Search the "Tested Soundcards" forum for AC97 and you will find tons of threads:

thx alot, thats exactly the thread i was looking for.. a pitty that there isnt a solution yet
On my new PC with onboard sound (AC97) I got the same problem after a while as well. I highly suspect a driver update (sry, don't have the driver versions available here) but as I didn't used TS for a while, I can't confirm it.
Over years with SB cards I never had such a problem on several PC's. I can now almost confirm the lots of problems some people have with AC97 sound chips. It also proofs what you read about in HW tests about it's recording quality
