"bad response from server" error

My son's computer recently had to be re-formatted. Now everytime he tries to connect to a server it gives him the error, "bad response from server". I already checked to see if he has incompatible versions, and that's not the problem. Could this be an issue with a driver(s)? Codecs? Please help, I'm stumped.

check firewall / antivirus...

One time I had to go into windows firewall and create an exception to allow the server port I use for a ts server.

If you use norton or what not, also look in there.

try disabling these things and see if it works. if it does work, you know where to look... and if it doesnt, you know where not to look.
