Set up a clan server last night and everthing went fine.I am on a 1mb Cable connection and so when i play games my ping is between 15-30 normally on UK servers.

Set 1 default channel up and 5 people joined. My ping went to 625 in game (SOF 2) and made the game un playable.

Is this the norm or am i doing something wrong.I guessing that everyone had the codec set to 16.4GSM so is this the problem , or is it something else.

Plz help as i quiet like Teamspeak.

PS does anyone know of a server company in the uk offering Teamspeak Servers for rent.

Cheers All Help Welcome

The GSM 16.4 codec takes up about 2 kb/s for each user. Having 5 users on the Server would be an upstream of 10 kb/s (if only 1 person is talking at a time) and a max of around 45kb/s (if everyone is talking at once). Your cable line most probably has an upseed of either 128kbps or 256kbps. 128kbps is to few for 5 people on GSM while playing any online game. 256kbps should work unless people always talk at the same time.

I'd suggest to set the codec to CELP 6.3 when playing games since that codec has resonable quality and only takes up very little bandwith.
