Check your playback mixer settings and mute your mic.
Check your recorder mixer settings and select only mic.
If this still persists then we will need more information.
OS
MB + Drivers
SC + Drivers
DirectX version

OhOh
First yes that is what you want, you don't want to hear yourself in the headphones.
The OHOH above is for the SoundCard. I am not sure that the SB-PCI64 can handle two way comms. (talking and hearing at same time). I beleive you will have to upgrade to minimum PCI128 for SoundBlaster cards. My son has the SB-PCI128 in his computer and it works.
You may have a rough time finding one that old. I have had good sucsess with the SB line of Hardware even tho their drivers bite.
Good Luck in your quest, It will be a positive outcome.

hey, it handles two way comms just fine (i.e. yahoo voice chat)
its just that TS seems to think that i have another application using the recording function already (even after i restarted my pc with no programs running). under the self tab, the only thing i can do is mute output (then i cant hear anyone else) but when i undo that, it goes right back to being input muted. the other options are not greyed out, just that nothing happens when i press them

check to see what devices you are using in the [Settings][Options][Sound Devices][Device]
Sorry about sound card spec mistake. I thought SB-PCI128 was minimun for TS.
