How come in servers im only a guest. How can I have my name there?

Please help. When i go inot a public server my name comes up as a guest. Will i have to pay for my own server for my name to come up. Because in the public servers there are people with their name. Who can i get my own name and not be a guest all the time.:confused:

you enter a nick

enter a nickname like linuxfan said.

go to settings/options/default guest nickname
