View Full Version : Background noise canceling
Hello I think teamspeak is great, its really good!
I am now on Windows Vista Home Premium, I have a headset when i'm in a match in clanbase on COD2, but when I'm not in a match I use the speakers and my webcam microphone!
People in teamspeak say they can't understand me that well because when I haven't got my headset on they can hear my television in the background, a feature where you can turn down the background noise and just hear ur voice would be good to have on teamspeak! Background cancelling! :D
See what u can do guys, let me know! ;)
No offense meant but could it be that you don't really have much of a clue how background noise reduction does work?
There is no way for programming a magic button which will just figure out all by itself which of the noise (that would include your voice) is actually meant to be transmitted and which could be disregarded.
Obviously one could try to use filters which will concentrate on the frequences most commonly atributed to human voices but thats not really much of a help either when your TV is runing and someone is speaking on the programm.
Actually, you might be just as hard to understand when someone would try to talk to you in the same room for all the noise there will be.
There are only 2 ways to reduce background noise.
a) Very expensive hardware combined with highly specialised software
b) Using a microphone which will only record your voice due to having a very limited range, due to being placed very close to your mouth or due to special recording techniques (laryngeal microphones)
Since only b) is a valid solution, there is pretty much nothing which can be done by the programmers. If you insist on using your webcam microphone you (or actually the people you are talking to) will have to live with the fact that this type of microphone does pick up pretty much any noise in the room at equal levels.
Use the search button next time. Someone already asked this.

Hmmm, my laptop mic is seriously 2 feet away from my TV, it only records the loudest sounds and people hear me just fine. you may want to turn down your TV.
