Dear Teamspeak-Developers!

Just to make it clear: I have already read the forum-posts about making TS open source. Yet i open another thread because i think you underestimate the advantages which would come to TS-Users and developers if you released TeamSpeak into freedom.

1) and most important is simply more developers - more people see more things, use more platforms, have more ideas.
2): T. Boonstra said here [1] you'd be "losing" your program, which is nonsense: You would still receive credit, because after all it's your program. Look at all the other big (which TS is, a lot of ppl use it) projects: It's never "developed by the OSS-Community". Developers are always mentioned. And you would be controlling what will be programmed. Forks would never be as popular as the "original" TS - only if they were better for the people, which cannot be against your interest.
3): In case you give up your project "because of a lack of time" it would still be developed.
4) T. Boonstra also said he was afraid MS would steal the TS-Sourcecode, which, again, doesn't make sense. In my opinion MS would not steal your code if you released it, simply because they have so many talented programmers, who could write very good code, too. Thinking MS needs you is a bit foolish. Besides, nobody would use a MS-Teamspeak. Look, they tried it [3], but had no success. Copying TS would not change the situation.
5) Releasing the code to OSS would also enable people to use TS for example as a Plugin in Gaim, which would be just great.
6) Releasing TS would also enable people to use the "official" TS on Platforms like the Mac (which you - i suppose - don't support because you don't have one. Release TS as OSS, 2 days later you have a Mac-Client [2].
7) People could modify TS the way they wanted, insert Plugins etc. I would also love to have a better GUI to use my MS-Gamevoice.

It disappoints me really to see how you think about Open Source. Even big companies release Software as Open Source - look at the firefox (once Netscape), Open Office (once Star Office) or Java - all of those products have grown and became a lot better when OSS-Developers realized their value. Just seeing "R. Ludwig" writing "hi penguins" in his post [1] , where he writes TS will never be freed shows his blindness: I bet he wrote the Post in his Firefox, using Java Scripts. As if Open Source would be the same as Linux...

Please respond :-)
Best wishes, Hauke
