View Full Version : An adminstrative oversight?

I'm unsure wether this is an oversight on my behalf, (or yours?) but I have just recently started renting a teamspeak server, and started configuring it up to suit my needs. When I accessed the webpanel to set user privelages, I couldn't help but notice that registered / unregistered players can potentially have access to things that would normally be restricted to Server Admin. (SA)

This is only my personal opinion here, but shoudn't all privelages be available to every status available on the server, thus allowing a Server Admin to have complete control over the server, in terms of which users have which rights? I find it unusual that you could grant "adminbanip" to an unregistered user, yet not to a channel admin? Surely the Channel admin is there for a reason, and has earned the trust of the Server admins.

Just wondering if you're already aware of this, and if there are any patches coming out any time soon to resolve this?

Cheers,

Gralky

Thats the great thing for those of us that host the severs that you rent, its our server on our system on our box. Its like the old saying goes, Why rent when you can own. The Sysop sets certain privelages for a reason, maybe you shout contact the Sysop of the server your renting.

What he says is true. There are certain permissions that are not their for channel admin than a registered user. It should be better in TS3.

I myself have noticed the same thing... But I can easily see that the decision to open up all privileges to SA, R, and U may have been a quick out. But the reason that Channel Admin, Operator, and Voiced users is because those rights are explicitly restricted to the specific channel that you grant them in. So what sense would it make to have a channel admin in one channel have full access to the SA privileges.

Actually, if you notice, anyone who creates a channel in TS, registered or not, gets Channel Admin for that channel. So that would qualify as a security risk unless you cover all the rights.

Exactly, the reason I am asking this, is I currently play Eve online, and am part of an alliance. What I am trying to setup, is a separate 'master' channel if you will, for each Corp within the alliance, each with their own sub channels for pvp etc. Ideally, what I was hoping to emulate, is the Server admins (myself, and a few trusted friends) ultimately run the server, but the leaders of each corp involved, have CA status within their area's have the powers to move members from channel to channel to make it easier when doing ops. Although, if indeed you say this is true with TSrc3, that'll solve lots of my probs :D
