so i just looked at some similar threads about this subject. i am using a router: motorola WR850G. so i followed the port forwarding instructions from a link in another post here, and set up a static IP for this comp that im hosting it from. i am still unable to get people to connect to it. i can connect to it using my LAN IP but not my internet IP.
im using version 2.0.r20.b1 atleast thats what it says when i pull up the superadmin tools, im using windows xp pro. if anyone needs more information, just let me know, this is my first post here.
any help would be appreciated, thanks

Well I have seen a lot of people having the same problem.
I will try to get you through this as easily as I can.
First remember that you will have at least two IP addresses!
You will have the external IP which is the WAN IP, this is typically the IP that your ISP gives to you.
Then you will have your internal IP addresses. These are the LAN IP's.
for example your router's IP will be something like 192.168.1.100
your TS server pc's IP will be something like 192.168.1.101
your WAN IP may be something like 70.135.52.32 (Depending on your ISP that could be alot different but you get the idea.)
You want to set up a virtual server on your router, (this is pretty much the same as forwarding ports, just that the router does that part for you. You just enter numbers.)
Set the server up for your TS servers IP, making sure that you enter all the correct ports.
Using our example above you would set up a virtual server (or forward ports) for
IP address 192.168.1.101
Once you have done this you want to make sure that you hand out the IP address of your WAN to the players that you want to connect that ARE NOT on the internal network.
You may or may not want to add them to the server client list. If you dont do this then they are going to need to logon as "annonomys" (God I hope I spelled that right)
So If I wanted to connect to your teamspeak and we were using the ip addresses that I used in the above example, I would connect to your server with the ip address of 70.135.52.32 and if you have the ports forwarded to your TS server pc, then the request for that server gets pushed to that IP and it connects. As long as you have added me to the TS server client list then I would enter a username and pass that you have setup for me. If you didnt add me then I would check the annonomys box and log in that way. (You will have to make sure that you have the "allow annonomys users" selected.
Thats all you really need to do in a nutshell.
This is pretty broad and general and could be a lot different depending on your situation.
If this doesnt clear things up, then just IM me and I can work with you over the phone to figure it out.
Its probably something really simple and obvious.
Let me know as I will check this when I get home from work tonight.

I have added your MSN account, so just ok me and we can talk that way.
That or you can jump on my TS and we can talk that way.
I will give you the IP address for TeamSpeak over IM.
hiya... that looked really simple.... when i was reading it hehe! i have nailed the basics of control panal and things like that, however im better put to use playing football (or soccer as many of you may have changed the name to :P) i was jus wandering how do i set up a virtual server?! im completely confused.
on my administration bit my IP addresses are:
(pic of pc): 192.168.0.3
(pic of globe):172.143.16.20
however these do change everytime i log on. (another question... i tried to make my IP's permanant... but i have no idea how to find out what my subnet mask is... or how to find it?)
also i think... the problem being is i used (pc pic) to log in to TS however i think that may mean only ppl in my LAN can get onto my server... but again, i'm not entirely sure hehe :D if Devon, or any1 else is able to help me that would be fantastic!!!!! thanks a lot.

For a static internal IP:
Start, Network Connections, Select Network Card
Then right mouse click, Properties. Thenn click on TCP/IP and select Properties.
Go to Alternate Configuration and hit user configured, in there fill in your details.
To find your subnet and gateway go to start, run, type in cmd and in the dos screen type ipconfig.
Then you get a few details, and 3 IP adresses. Use Subnet Mask and Default Gateway.
Make a note of your current LAN IP also, because you have to be in that range..
I myself have set everything up to use the 10.0.0.x range.. Thats a hell of alot easyer to remember then the 192.x.x.x and the 186.x.x.x ranges :D
But if you dont know how to do that, just keep it within the range you have now.
For your WAN ip, you have to ask your ISP, if they cant do it use something like dyndns.com or a similar service.
