as one of the only computer literate people in my WoW guild i took it upon myself to create our team speak server, however because i did not want to sacrafice my own (and already low) bandwidth i decided to put it on my web sever (currently with 1&1).

what i want to know is how would i go about putting it on the server, is it possable to use a program like smart ftp to just pick up the TS server files and dump them onto a sub domain file directory or is there more i need.

if just dumping the files will work can i just ping the url, find the ip and then use that?

so is there an easier way? Will this work? Logging into the server, can i use the url instead of the IP?

You mean a regular webhosting? Not going to work, and even if you get it working its a security risk.
You need at least ssh acces to be ablew to run a server. Preferrably root acces to a server.

humm... well i havent looked too far into it as of yet, but i was wondering if anyone had exerpience with 1&1 (seen a few posts here and there conserning TS on it, and they seem to promote using PuTTY to run UT games) so i was under the impression it was possable

A website that I work with is hosted with 1and1 and they offer SSH access, but with there server farms, getting the IP's of the TS server, amoungst other things can all affect it. I do not believe you will be able to host the server on the web server.

most do not allow on web servers as these are servers just set up with programs for a website. But vps should allow you. The easiest thing to do is ask the sale of tech support of your hosting service.

ok well i did some research, it is not a vps, however it does support ssh so if i do just dump some files onto it (the server ones ofc) and then found out the ip adress should it work?

or is there something im missing...

you need the rights to be able to run programs. Im not familiar with 1&1 so i cant say anything about that.

Yeah it would work, but if you are not allowed do not expect a refund for your service with them.
