My clan has asked me to set up a music radio "station" in teamspeak. They want to set up a channel and have me broadcast music in it when I'm not playing myself.

The basic design is that I want to broadcast music into teamspeak in the background without hearing it in my own speakers. The easiest way is just to turn the microphone onto "voice activate" and just play music through speakers but that would prove ineffective for obvious reasons.

So this brings up a couple of questions I need someone smarter than my dumb self to overcome:
#1: How can I input sound into Teamspeak using something other than a microphone? Preferably using Winamp or Windows Media player.
#2: How to get teamspeak to broadcast the sound (i.e. "turn on").
#3: How can I do all of this without the sound outputing to my speakers so I can run it in the background even when I'm using the computer (optional).

Soundcard: SB Audigy 4
OS: Windows XP

1. Change Your sound recording channel "to something other than microphone".
2. Voice activation - pull it to the left (whisper). (for this specific task)
3. Only if You have second sound card (i.e. integrated audio card) and player that can use different sound devices.

Great, that worked. In the audio control pannel >recording control I just selectet "wave" instead of "microphone" which seems to be working well.

Now what can I do to increase the fidelity of the audio being broadcasted? Can a different audio codec be used on my end or is that all decided by the TS server?

Right now the codec for the channel is listed at "Codec: Speex 25.9 Kbit" are there higher options in TS?

2. Codec choice done by channel settings and cannot be altered on the client side.

3. There are no music-specific codecs in TS. Speex 30kBit is one of high-quality codecs available, but they all specialized to compress conversation, not music.

Well that's unfortunate there's no options like 128kbps but since that's not what TS was made for it's quite understanable.

Maybe just use shoutcast for broadcasting?
