View Full Version : How do I to Manage User Permissions?

I work w/ database and software security setup all day, so perhaps I'm overthinking this.....

I've set up my server and created a test user account. I was then able to login using that test account, via the client software. However, my problem is how do I set up a user's specific permissions? It appears that via the server, I can create a user account and make it either "registered" or "admin". What if I just want this user to be a channel admin, etc? Where do you set these permissions up?

I'd also like to for the nickname to be the name I've assigned to the user account. Is this possible as well?

thanks in advance

Channel flags like channeladmin, operator or voice can only be granted with the client.

If you want to change the permission rights of a specific usergroup, login to your webadmin. There you can change it.

You can not currently force the nickname to the same as the registered name.

So I use the client to place my various users into the assorted security group? Ok, I can handle that. However, does this mean I have to wait for a user to connect via the client, then I drop them into what ever group I need?

Also, I'm assuming the server will remember what group a user is in, so I can assign them once and leave it alone. Is this correct?

thanks for the assistance

Correct the server will remember, except the regular voice and operator. It will do it for auto voice and auto operator. You can assign only SA through telnet when they are not connected.

Thanks for the quick response.

One last question for now. :)

What if I wanted to set aside a channel that can only be accessed by certain users. Is this possible and, if so, how?

Yes, you can password protect it. Although CA of that channel and SA do not have to know the password to enter.
